F16 and F18 fighter planes flew very close to the Cambodian border by mistake about 1pm on Thursday, air force chief-of-staff Air Chief Marshal Prachin Chantong said.
ACM Prachin said the fighters were seen flying only two or three kilometres from the Thai-Cambodian border in Si Sa Ket province.
This caused speculation they were testing the border at a time Thailand and Cambodia are engaged in a border conflict.
In fact, the jets were from the air forces of Thailand, the United States and Singapore taking part in the Cobra Gold 2011 exercise being held in the 2nd and 3rd Army Regions, he said.
ACM Prachin said aircraft taking part in the exercise should be flying at least 10km from the border, but a mistake caused the planes to approach to within two or three kilometres of the border.

I would like to appeal to all our compatriot Khmer bloggers, pro-government, opposition and neutral alike. While it is understandable that some of the fiery comments and insults/accusation expressed by some of you are the results of frustration/anger against Thailand (I should say Thai government) aggression. Some are also frustrated by the way CPP-led government is handling the situation. However, this is time to unite (the joint visit by National Assembly members with all parties represented and Hun Sen thanking all parties and civil society are already a good start). It is also the time when we need the support of international community and should show that Khmers area civilised and not barbarian or sub-category people as some arrogant people in neighbouring countries want to label us. Because of latest events, more and more people in Asia, including in Thailand, and around the world will be looking in the different web forums for information about this conflict.
Please try to avoid being vulgar and trade insults. It would beneficial to all if objective comments, constructive suggestions/criticisms area made. The different forums play essential role to share and cross-check information and counter Thai government propaganda. Keep in mind that not all Thai and Vietnamese (see, I refrain to say “yourn”) people are bad. I dare hope that many of them want to live in peace and mutual respect. We are condemned to be neighbours for ever and cannot treat each other as enemy for ever. We should distinguish in our comments the criminal warmonger and politicians from the population at large who are victims on both side of the borders. Instigating general hatred among Khmer, Thai and Vietnamese population is for the benefit of none.
If you check the Thai media, there is a lot of disinformation and manipulation. Fortunately, you can see also some comments by Thai citizens questioning Thai actions and condemning this non-sense aggression.

Don't be fool, they are on a reconnaisance mission. They fly to gather the positions of the Cambodian formation of tanks and troops.
Remember a few days before the 4 Feb shoot out the Thais plane flew close to the border to get the positions of the Cambodian troops along the border for their artilleries. The American and Singapore know how sensitive the issue is, they ain't that stupid as the Thais claimed.

In this article, Gen Srey Dek told Financial Time that he doesn't where is Cambodia and where is Thailand and wait until the join commission to survey. He maybe confused by Thai commander or he just want to reduce tension.
And it is very important that everyone have to understand the verdict of ICJ. The court awarded the temple to Cambodia base on map that was the result joint commission set up France and Siam. This commission had duty to survey the border according to two treaties (1904 and 1907). According to 1904 treaty, the border in some part have to follow by watershed and 1907 is the exchange of provinces. And the treaty in 1907 that we seen Preah Vihean is in Cambodia. Those agreements were aimed to have a final border between Indo-China and Siam. The 1904 treaties was set out some natural geography to be reference for the survey, but the exact boundaries were up to the joint commission who surveyed the border. And generally the exactly boundaries were fixed by the convenience trace that the commission chose and it is the case in Preah Vihear. After finishing the survey, the commission report to the two governments about the success of their work. And Siam asked France to print out a series of maps.
If they make mistake by flying over our sky why don't we make it mistake by shoot them down.

At reasonable attitude with such proximity an aircraft fitted with surveillance equipment can capture high quality aerial photos/video detail enough to pin point enemy battle positions.
