BANGKOK — Thailand will tell the UN Security Council there is no need for outside mediation to resolve a deadly border conflict with Cambodia, according to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.
He said Thailand was confident that it could make a strong case at the closed-door meeting in New York on Monday to show that Phnom Penh sparked the standoff over disputed territory, which has left eight people dead.
"We're confident that we can explain that (Cambodia's claims) are wrong," he said in his weekly television address.
"Cambodia is calling for (intervention by) a third country, the UN and peacekeeping forces. Thailand will call for a return to bilateral talks on demarcation," he said.
Thailand will present evidence including pictures and media reports to support its case and show that Cambodia used an ancient temple at the centre of the dispute as a military base, he added.
Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya is due to attend Monday's Security Council meeting, along with his Cambodian counterpart Hor Namhong.
Thailand and Cambodia have blamed each other for the clashes around the ancient temple of Preah Vihear, which sparked four days of fighting earlier this month.
Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen sought an urgent Security Council meeting and called for a UN buffer force to be put in place. Thailand has repeatedly said the dispute should settled between the two countries.

PM Hun Sen, if you are really Khmer please don't hear the call from Thailand under PM Abishit. Let the UN do this job because Preah Vihear is absolute 100% belong to Khmers land. Why they want to talk only two party because Abashit know exactly:
1)as the Khmer proverb has it "Siam Minh Choul Kboun Youn Minh Choul Pout Khmer Sout Trouk Psam Chhos Psam Leugn". Deatils: when we views closely to Khmer learders character since Angkor's breakup (before 15th century, Khmer not like this), Khmers has had never trusted itself and real united, Khmer leaders need Viet for help against Thai and own power clan as gift for Viet have a piece Khmer Land to Viet step by step, in fact we can see what the CPP under Hun Sen do presently and they claim as Khmer Angkor (sic). The next will do the same.
2) When UN resole this problem Thailand will lost. Details: Cambodia has enough documents for preventing Khmer territory signed by Thai Kings with France (former Khmer protector, 90 Years in Cambodia till 1953)
3) Which great nation will support Thailand on this issue. Belances:
- France 100% for Cambodia,
- Russia 100% for Cambodia,
- India 100% for Cambodia,
- UK 50% for Cambodia,
- Japan 100% for Cambodia,
- China 50% for Cambodia because alot of Chinese are living in Thailand,
- The USA people 100% for Cambodia, the US's Govt first only 50% official (closed door 100% for Cambodia too because US know about Khmer nation well) for Cambodia because Thailand is old alliance in cold war against communist but press Abashit to accept the treaty with France in 1904, 1907, 1926. Abishit make USA headache like Mubarak today.

Right now in Thailand had three
problem inside Abhisit political.
First in part of south of Thai had
too many constant violence between
Muslim and Siam and 2nd all the red
shirt they had again Abhisit political and Abhisit to prevent
all the problem with red and yellow
shirt he denied that case push to
the border problem and he had to
kept problem at another side .
If Abhisit go to UN Security council resolve this problem
they will knew exactly where was
the border line and will lose his
case , so all the yellow and the
red shirt will not support him
any more . This politic game he
used the bloody of innocent to
protect his power .
Asean is helping Thailand. You can see, if Hun Sen did not send letter to UNSC, Asean would not jump in. What Asean want now is to bring the issue back and let the two countries work out themselves.
yes... before going to New York. Indonesia foreign minister invited all member for a meeting on 22 Feb to show that Asean is working on the border problem too and tell UNSC not take farther action.

Thailand is dream of having a talk with Cambodia about the border problem but Cambodia has enough of it . Cambodia will let the UN step in and solve it .

Thailand had rejected the UN to help solve border dispute problem...what border dispute? there is none for thailand to claim. you wrongfully invaded Cambodia to steal our temple and now you try to steer your story other way around and to dodge the UN intervention. Cambodia have all the rights to place troops there to prevent thailand from stealing it. We know your history of doing that to Cambodia...you are a back stabber. You will always try every cheap shot at us. You try to take advantage of over a smaller country and you could even do it cus you are a thief.
