Chaiyaphum - Pilots of two F16 jet fighters which collided in mid-air during the Cobra Gold war exercise in Chaiyaphum province Monday morning ejected safely.
The Two F16 jet fighters taking part in the Cobra Gold war exercise collided mid-air and crashed on a mountain in Chaiyaphum Monday morning.
TV reports said pilots of the planes ejected themselves out of the planes in time.
The authorities have been trying to locate and recue the two pilots from the forest.
Local villagers said they saw a plane crashed on the Lankha Mountain in Muang district.
The villagers said the planes were seen going down in the area of Wang Phone village in Tambon Thahin-ngo, next to Kaengkro district.
The planes were taking part in the Cobra Gold exercise in Nakhon Ratchasima but they collided over Wang Phone village.
Air Force spokesman AM Monthol Satchanukorn told The Nation that two F16 fighters disappeared from the radar screen at 10:20 am. The two were among four F16 jets from the Wing Command 1 in Nakhon Ratchasima, which joined the Cobra Gold exercise.
Monthol said Air Force Commander-in-Chief ACM Itthaporn Supawong had dispatched a helicopter and some vehicles to search for the two pilots.

anyone knows how many F16 Thailand has? Now they lost two. It is good news for both countries, because the two pilots are safe so it is good for Thailand and it is good for Cambodia because two jet-fighters are reduced from Thai arsenal.
Those both jet fighters are taking pictures from Cambodian soldiers's position in Prah Vihear. Those was punished by "Black Magic" from Prah Vihears, all Thai must know and that is just the beginning for Thai Army, it will come more, even fire to each other in the truops.

Yet to use SAM, two thai fighting jets were broken down.

How much dose F16 cost?

Thai Army should sue the Khmer Black Magic and ask for the compensation.
it costs around 30+ millions dollars, but I think it is not important to lost one or two for Thailand, because Thai military got roughly 2 billions dollars annually, it is the size of the whole national budget of Cambodia.
Thailand is in debt around $70 billions or more, before Takshin Thai no money to pay just interest.
Also F16 is $136 millions today.
How much dose F16 cost?
Answer:
1) new F-16E: a unit cost $65 millions. It means 50 T-90 tanks from Russia or 12 Merkava
tanks from Israel.
2) Second hand F-16E: a unit cost $35 millions. It means 27 T-90 tanks from Russia or
6.5 Merkava tanks from Israel.
Thailand has more then 30 F16. But not sure how many exactly.
So far including these two, they lost 3 jets.

So they still have up to +/-30 planes more.
Not only it cost a lot of money to purchase these jet fighters but also cost a lot of money to fly and maintain.
Until Cambodian can reap benefit from oil and other minerals that are just been discovered, we would have to be on the side line. The Siems also boast about their F16 jets this and jets that. It kinda annoy me.
How about cambodian MIG21? I heard khmer has 700 mig 21. Is it true?
Not true. We only have about 50 and maybe 5 are operable. The rest need a lot of repair and maybe upgate in terms of weapon system and new radars.
Siam military have not yet begun the real war, they have already killed them. Certainly, Siams are much better equipped than the Khmer military. but I think that the Khmer military supported the psychological pressure that the siam military.
Thai army will use carpet bomba againt Dr. Hun Sen families.
I know we don't have fancy fighters like the Thais, but the Cambodian Government must purchase SAM from the Russian and place them in key strategic locations along the borber. The Thais don't have limitless resources, they are not the creator or inventor of the F16s, or other weapons.....so they wouldn't risk a full scale war for a long period with Cambodia. They want to control the war that's why they called for talk soon after the shoot out.....Cambodia shouldn't let them do this....they think they can start and stop the war any time with Cambodia on their terms....so the next time it starts just give them a taske of hell of war and shut down all communication with them.
To me I believe that no matter what thai have It won't be so sure to invade cambodia so easily as they thought. Remember the Vietnam War... who won the war and who is the looser? As long as all Cambodian inside and outside are become one then Siamese will CHET ROY.
