Visit of Kerry KENNEDY and Launch of Robert F. Kennedy Center's "Speak Truth To Power"

We, at CIVICUS: Center for Cambodian Civic Education, are very excited to welcome the only second KENNEDY to visit Cambodia and her high-level delegation! The first Kennedy was First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy in 1967 who was wined and dined by our King Father Norodom Sihanouk.

We have extended the invitation to the Prime Minister and are in communication with the Royal Government's highest representative for human rights and also the RGC's official representative to the newly-birthed ASEAN Inter-governmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), H.E. Om Yentieng, to give the Keynote Address at the Human Rights Education seminar in the afternoon of February 23 at Pannasastra University auditorium. We see this as an opportune occasion for civil society and government to come together at a very high-publicity occasion and celebration of values we share in common - the education of our young people!

We have also requested an audience with King NORODOM Sihamoni for this Kennedy delegation, which includes Kerry's daughter Michaela (whose father is the newly elected governor of New York Andrew Cuomo), the Italian philanthropist (oknha) Adolfo Vannucci and Australian philanthropist and founder of Global Peace Index Steve Killelea.

Who would be better suited to speak about "Speak Truth To Power" than "H.E.” Om Yentieng?

What does he of all people know about civic education?

Seriously, this event is bizarre and serves only to legitimize those who run and maintain a most uncivic system of governance. Those who provide a forum for such people's pretention of deliberation and democracy are not much better.

i glad to see cambodia is inviting more and more good causes and good organizations, etc to cambodia to establish centers for peace, civility, learning centers, etc. god bless cambodia in many ways.

thank you for helping to make cambodia the center of learning, etc. we would like cambodia to belong to the whole world of goodness.

I appreciate that no photoshoped photo of Theary Seng has been posted along with. Must be a first.

Still, why is it only her name that is tagged? she does only introductory remarks while there are heavyweight speakers. Agree that Om Yentieng should not be invited if 'speaking truth to power' is supposed to retain any meaning.

if you would have tried to come up with the most opportunistic liar around, he would certainly have been an outstanding candidate.

It is a very admirable and excellent event, very good for image of Cambodia. Very courageous of Theary Seng to invite the government to join in such a prestigious event, which for sure will be covered by Hollywood and all the international media.

Everyone can agree on education. It will also be very courageous of Oum Yengtieng to attend. I doubt the PM even if he wnats to with the war in Tahiland.

Becuase its her organization who is hosting the event!

is an NGO a possession? I think this is a retarded conception of civil society underlying the 1:32 AM. I think you are in need of civic education.

I am afraid though that this conception might in fact be shared by Theary Seng.

What the poor of Cambodians desperately need is liberation, and I think therefore I undoubtedly believe only through an education which could conscientiously give them an initially critical consciousness and also actively prepare them to realize their own value and society. In short, they would critically reflect and study their world, and acknowledgeably move into action of yearning freedom to transform SenVarman's regime to Democratic nation.

A very great initiative to heal the country. There is times to disagree, times to come togehter. Education is a good topic to come together.

Ms. Seng is not a figure head that people in Cambodia listening and believe to follow like Luk Guru Buth Savong, Ven. Dr. Hok Sovann, or Holiness Dalai Lama in Tibet that sacrify their seft interest (altruism)..
Many have seen Ms. Seng too ego and selfist...

can we go back to posting photos of Theary please? They meant a lot to me. I don't care for those long letters, lots of text but her photos. I don't care what she has to say but boy she is pretty

So in summary, there will be the Anthem and then some feel-good introduction by Theary Seng, followed by some more feel-good opening remarks from a few other talking heads.

Then it will be Om Yentieng’s turn to give the keynote address about “Speaking Truth to Power”.

Then Om Yentieng, Hun Sen’s most powerful and opportunistic poodle, will leave to attend his many dirty businesses involving centrally the abuse of power.

Theary, you are a US citizen. Unlike Cambodians, you don’t need to be afraid to speak truth to power. Yet you wait until the power has left until getting started on moderating a panel on speaking truth to power.

This is not only lame but it really only makes matters worse and a travesty of the motto of the event.
