You’ve heard a lot about what’s going on in the Middle East – but have you heard about what’s going on in Southeast Asia? A border clash between Cambodia and Thailand is about to come to a head in front of the United Nations, and today Cambodian-Americans came to West Seattle and White Center for a demonstration aimed at bringing it to your attention and demanding the U.S. government get involved. West Seattle Blog/White Center Now contributor Deanie Schwarz noticed the protest, took these photos and talked to spokesperson Sokmakara Hang, who explained that the demonstrators came from all over the state, and came here because this area has the state’s highest concentration of Cambodian-Americans. They stood on corners all around 16th/Roxbury:

Also on hand was Meach Sovannara from the Khmer Post Media Center in Long Beach (Calif.). The dispute is over a border area near the Preah Vihear Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site that is more than a millennium old. The Cambodian-Americans say the most recent skirmishes killed Cambodian soldiers, and are demanding that the Thai government stop what they call an “invasion.” They want United Nations intervention as well as President Obama and the rest of the international community. According to this story from the Bangkok Post, this issue will be brought to the UN Security Council on Monday, and reportedly Cambodia will claim it’s at war with Thailand. There’s more background on the century-long conflict over the temple in this Jakarta Post story.

the conflict stemmed from thailand's pad thugs extremist making illegal demand, and all of a sudden, thailand decided to disrespect the international treaty of 1907 and the 1962 international court of justice verdict that the preah vihear temple and its adjacent so-called 1.8 sq. miles belongs to cambodia in accordance to the international treaty of 1904-1907 time frame. thailand catered to their pad thugs extremists group that
s making illegal demand as if the temple and adjacent lands were built by them when in actuality, the great ancestors of the great khmer angkorian kings built it and more. on top of that, siem's pad thugs people used their own illegal unilateral map to make such claim at the expense of cambodia, you know! many of thailand so-called bilateral talks with cambodia failed many times already, so now, cambodia requesting that the UN security council and other international body to intervene and mediate the conflict. cambodia boycotts thailand failed bilateral talks which went in circle given they used illegal map to make illegal claim of the so-called dispute territories with cambodia. and don't quote from the bangcock post, it is the world most biased newspaper that is pro-thailand and major bias towards their reports on cambodia. they are the imbalanced newspaper when it comes to stories on cambodia and related reports, etc...

WE NEEDED TO DEMAND ON THAILAND TO PAY BACK FOR PREAH VIHEAR TEMPLE.

We need to file a legal action against Thailand at the International
Court of Justice demanding that Thailand pays for damages caused to the Preah Vihear temple.
