Ambassador: Border row bilateral issue should be settled peacefully through two-party talks

The continuing Thai-Cambodian border dispute should be settled peacefully at the bilateral level, Cambodia's ambassador to Thailand You Ay said on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Couple of Love and Rival seminar on Tuesday morning, she said people should not politicise the border issue. It should be addressed at the bilateral level within the framework of the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Boundary Commission (JBC).
The border row would jeopardise regional cooperation in Southeast Asia, such as the single-visa agreement under the Acmecs (Ayeyawady - Chao Phraya - Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy) scheme, she said.
"Educators need to teach the true history of both countries to the young generation," she said.
The Cambodian envoy also urged the Thai public to be well aware of the neutral voices, which do not take sides and have good faith.
She said the Bayon temple, a World Heritage site in Siem Reap, has 54 towers each representing the 54 provinces of the ancient Khmer empire.
"Cambodia now has 24 provinces, as 17 others are in Vietnam and 13 in Thailand.
"Thai and Cambodian people share the same DNA as a consequence," she said.
She said Cambodia had never thought about claiming its 13 former provinces in Thailand, as both countries must co-exist side by side.
The border issue stemmed from the different maps used by the two countries and the problem can be resolved through the JBC, she added.

i think people misinterpret her khmer remark, really! bilateral in this sense mean fixing up the border demarcation first, etc. bilateral in this case is not necessarily come first. it is a misinterpretation. i wouldn't be surprise by someone that like to criticize cambodia. give her some credit. we don't put uneducated individuals to be our ambassadors, so... think clearly, about it, please!
it is wise to listen to all experts legal advice, etc... ambassador you ay has a legitimate saying in all of this as well. so, give her some credit for your contribution to finding any solution to the conflict, of course, we talk about legality, here!
You Ay is coming back to Phnom Penh next week. You Ay wants to spent more time with her family and will turn in her resignation letter to Hun Sen soon.
of course, bilateral talk is the goal, however, it's doesn't necessarily as a priority because the priority now is for the UN security council to help enforce what is is right within the framework of the international law because siem's continued rankling with cambodia will not be acceptable nor legal. the law is the law, get used to it, siem! this is my opinion and no one else but mine alone, thank you.

it is historically incorrect to assume that the old kingdom had 54 provinces because the temple of bayon has 54 faces.
If 24 now resides in Cambodia, 17 in Thailand, and 13 in Vietnam makes 54 then what about Wat Phu and the other provinces in Laos? They did not exist? But her point is well taken, Thai share Khmer DNA because of the old kingdom history and should learn to appreciate the deeply rich culture Khmer provide for their civilization's starting point.

In the mid 1950’s the provinces: Rattanakiri, Mondulkiri, Preah Vihear, Oddor Meanchey and several more provinces did not exist, they were created by the detachment from the adjacent provinces.
The Ambassador’s job is way over her ignorant head.
I wonder how does she get the job, is she related to Hun Sen or his wife?

History is an important part of an Ambassador’s knowledge and especially your own country’s history.
I understand but if US run away from war it is mean simple lost war. US had used chemical warfare in Vietnam and Cambodia. US murdered 1000 thousands of innocent Cambodians life’s including babies, young kids, women, pregnant women, men, elderly... during at that period by B 52, chemical warfare. US must be a world lead who must take fully responsible for war crime against humanitarians and human right, if there is a real justice system is have.
