Dr. A Gaffar Peang-Meth's writings have enlightened many Cambodians who are still living in the blindness to see things clearer, but some Cambodians who live abroad still see things in obscurity. For instance, these recent border clashes between the Thai and the Cambodian troops have created a blind patriotism amongst the opposition SRP and HR parties' members who came out in several US cities' street corners and other parts of the world in a protest against the Thai troops.
I strongly believe that the border conflicts with Thai can only be solved through the International Court of Justices, or has Hun Sen had the will to do it, this would expose a broader border issues with Vietnam. Do not blindly fight for 4.6 square kilometers that is already recognized by the UN in an exchange of several thousand square kilometers that were taken by Vietnam.
This border situations have strategically played out well from the hands of the Vietnamese, as Dr. Peang-Meth mentioned in his writing, "Hun Sen wants the conflict on the western border to distract the people from the more significant encroachment by the Vietnamese on the eastern flank." He also made a valid point in the last sentence of his writing, "One day, the Vietnamese and the Thais will connect at Cambodia's western border." This is what I have been concerned all along witnessing the unstoppable flow of the Vietnamese population and the Vietnamese businesses in Cambodia that one day we would see ourselves living in Vietnam.
A critical analysis comes from thoughtful and valid point of views and facts of a writer. It does not come from an emotion of writer or anyone's propaganda. As the Lord Buddha teaches us " When a person acts with an emotion he acts with an unstable mind." An unstable mind leads us to anger and this anger led Cambodians to kill two and half millions of Khmer people.
Please think with thoughtfulness and open mind. Do not fall as a pawn in the Vietnamese game.

Buawat Sithi, the points you made in the article are spot on. All along, I've been saying as well that Preah Vihear issue is just a sideshow which Hun Sen has taken opportunity to drum up blind patriotism against the Thai, and at the mean time divert attention from the Easter border issues(i.e. border encroachments). Noun Kheoun has warned us the danger of Vietnam advancement west ward in hist book in 1970, and his theory is now proven. Wake up all khmer inside/ outside Cambodia!!! To write or analyze this issue clearly, we have to look at as much information as possible. If you just speculate something, it will turn out to be a conspiracy. Dr. Peang Meth also tried to speculate a dirty trick of Vietnam/Hun Sen. I am not trying to defend PM Hun Sen, but we should be more objective and use all the facts that we have known to analyze the situation.
To bring a case UNSC or IJC is not easy as we want. Cambodia had complained once in 2008, but failed to draw attention from the Council members and waited until Feb this year to bring back the case to the Council. But the council delegated the problem solving to Asean. As for IJC, we need to have strong point to make appeal, so that the court can examine the case and clarify the old verdict. So Cambodia has to be very careful, because if the court doesn't accept the appeal or doesn't clarify the verdict, we will be in a weaker position to deal with Thailand. It is almost sure that if Cambodia bring the case to ICJ, Thailand will oppose. They will say they accept the verdict but need to discuss with Cambodia bilaterally to demarcate the border. So there is no point for the court to clarify the verdict for the moment.

If Mr. Hun Sen thinks that Yourn just wants to come to Cambodia to invest money in order to make profits, BE WARNED, it' s about land not the money that Yourn after.

* Land concessions, are leased for 99 years, within the span of 99 yrs, the Yourns that come to work in those farm lands will have children, grandchildren, when they grow up, they will claim that those lands belong to their parents.
When the lease expires, they refuse to hand back those lands back to Khmer, do we have any mean to expel them against their mighty armies?
Casinos along the Yourn border, some of us think that was kind of smart idea of Mr. Hun Sen.
They draw money from Yourn into Cambodia and also act as the buffer zone to protect Yourn from moving deeper into Khmer territory, sounds like a smart move.
But the problem is most of those casinos employees are Yourns, they come to live in Cambodia to work there, they own the lands and homes in the area, so what is the use to have casinos to act as buffer against what? when they already inside.
It' s like you build the fence around your garden to keep the animal out but what is the use when the animals already in side?

Dr. Peang made a legitimate points fact finding between Preah Vihea and YOUN Cambodia vitenamization indeed he was also the one who was a strong supporter of a KPNLF freedom fighter in the 80 along Thai border that the three coalition forces whose defeated YOUN to finally came to negotiation table the creation of Paris agreement in 1991 that YOUN and Thai also signed the treaty....

The only time in modern history that a Cambodian government actually stood up for itself and did anything to combat the encroachment of the Vietnamese expansionism was during Lon Nol's Khmer Republic period and Pol Pot's Democratic Kampuchea (Khmer Rouge) period.
From 1979 to today, Hun Sen and all of those uneducated peasant slaves of the Youn have given over thousands of square kilometers to the Vietnamese. Villages, rice fields, roads and canals that once were part of Cambodia before 1979 are now deep within Vietnam. If you also consider the population of Cambodia, about 3,000,000 are ethnic Vietnamese. And the rise in Vietnamese population does not end, it increases every single day.
As long as we can keep our Preah Vihear Temple and the land around it as The ICJ's judgment of 1962 decided it, please go ahead to take our land back from the East as much as possible, Kampuchea Krom, Koh Tral, etc.. People on the ground are struggling hard legally, politically, diplomatically, as well as by military means, day and night, to keep our land and the temple as it was recognized by The Hague ICJ. Pleas do not discredit them as The Yellow shirts in Bangkok would ask you to do. Please do not make your self the allies of Bangkok, and the Yellow Shirts and the war mongering people at the neighbors west, just because you do not like some people currently in power in Phnom Penh! You do not hit the fly with a stick as you see it on your noose! That should heart or kill yourself as well as you could luckily kill the fly. There is a forest behind the tree you can see. You are our valuable real PhD and scholars and intellectuals. Please help us keep our country as it is by avoiding nourishing your short sight comments with your personal ambitions and your personal grudges for power. Our nation needs to strive well in order to catch up with others to survive economically and politically. Please do not go back to the past XVIIth-XIXth Centuries, our darkest period of our history. There should be no anyone personal ambition more important than our national interest. We should all learn to lower our ego for the survival of our nation. Please be a little less loudly when you do not do anything at all for our country in these circumstances. Good if your psychiatrist told you that you are not depress and having a stable mind. Please allow others who think that they need to defense their country to do so, since everyone of us love dearly our country Cambodia. I am so sorry for those who unluckily, felt compelling to support our national stands in defending our country, despite their grudges against the power on the ground.
Vietnamese dirty tricks are up to it again. The Vietnamese tactic is this:
Use Cambodia (through advising)as a proxy (Preah Vihear issue)to instigate civil unrest in Thailand against Abhisit's administration. Civil unrest eventually leads to violence and a partial collapse of the Thai government. Instability leads to loss of foreign investments. These foreign investments and potential future investments then finds new homes in Vietnam as they divert themselves from Thailand. Vietnam strives to become the regional economic power and wants to take that away from Thailand.
Once Abhisit's administration collapses, the Thai military takes over (once again). Rising border clashes between Cambodia and Thailand leads to the Thai occupying the small plot of land and Preah Vihear. Hun Sen thinks there will be a Thai invasion further into Preah Vihear province and will then ask Vietnam to send Vietnamese troops into Cambodia under the guise of Royal Armed Forces of Cambodia.
we believed as what this author said. There is nonsense to fight for 4.6 sq km when Hun Sen let Yuon took the whole country.
Having seen the people revolt against their own government in some Arab countries, some of us wish that it would happen in Cambodia as well because of we are frustrate with Mr. Hun Sen' s inaction against illegal Yourn immigrations, Yourn encroachments and land grabbing from the poor and useless of the court system but I am a against it.
If it would happen, it would make us feel better because we feel that justice would have been served against the injustice that has been impose upon us but it would be a disaster for Cambodia in the long run.
There would be a massacres against the prejudice judges, corrupted officials and those land grabbers and so on.
The Infrastructure would be in the mess, The armies would be in disarray.
In the chaos, Siam could move in and take over preah Vihear or may be deeper in Cambodia, Yourn would do the same thing on the east.
Mr. Hun Sen had signed an agreement with Yourn and Lao to help each other when needed, this would allow their armies to come back to Cambodia again and stay forever.
Or if they don't, the illegal Yourns would move east toward the border but Yourn government would not allow them to go back in, instead they would supply arms to them to protect them self, then he would have a bigger problem, east of Mekhong would be all Yourns.
One good sign from Mr. Hun Sen's policy is that he had sent his son, Manet to study in the US not Hanoi or other hard core communist country, and people come to study in the US, usually adapts to the democracy system very well.
I would urge all opposition parties, including Sam Raing Sy to interact with him.
It seems like Mr. Hun Manet doesn' t have Mr. Hun Sen' s character. He seems to have a very good character and smiles a lot, so he can be a bridge between the RCA and the oppositions.
Most if not all of the armies are loyal to Hun Sen because he rewards them with lands, luxury cars etc. and there would be no stable government without the support of the armies, especially when your country is next to Yourn' s.
From there, let' s all hope that there would be a smooth transaction into a democratic system in Cambodia one day.

@1:03AM, I hope so too. But many Khmer like to talk but not to do. They sit and waite to complaints after the facts. Last year in front of the UN Headquarters in New Yor, less then 100 people show up for this events.

I am in Cambodia and I pay a visite to USA 2 months a year, I never work in US and I alway have my own business in Cambodia, as you said I may have personal problem with Rainsy, no, I am not, I dont know who you are, but for me it take me maximume 6 months to find out what my mission with rainsy worth something or not, The answer is not, not and not at all? rainsy set up SRP is like SRP charity or SRP company, my man it never enought money for rainsy, event though you give hime ton of money, and may be sacrifice to burn yourself to support him, and the result is Rainsy will never gave you any gratitud,or love back to you, you may know that yourself right? aren't you?. I think illegal Vietnamese immigrations are the most danger for our nation because of misleading in our government as corruption etc. Some people at the Southeastern border lost their land, but I never see CPP supporters and its leaders talking about this issue just one time, why those gentlemen zip their mouth and don’t raise it up? If they are not a blinder and real heroes they should see and hear what happened to those people who the real victimize.

What did this article writer want to say? Did he want to say we should oblige with Thailand and surrender the so-called 4.6 km2 and give up UNESCO listing of Preah Vihear?
The protests came out because of the fact that Thais had rained our soil with 105 mm and 155 mm artillery rounds and absurdly insisted on controlling the land surrounding the temple.
Now, does that negate the concern about the quiet and cold invasion from the east? Definitely, no. There is still a need for a way to stop that encroachment. Blind patriotism is actually something the yellow-shirted Thais have been concocting.
Thief Thais and Vietnamese are the same. All of them are real Khmer enemies because they are trying to swallow Khmer land by using Hun Sen and his co-followers as a best slave ever.
I strongly support the government activities inorder to protect our territory at the Northwestern border, but disappoint at the Southeastern border because our leaders are chiken. Do you see some of Khmers who live along border between Khmer and Vietnam lost their land?
I knew all rich men are CPP members and its supporters. Under the view of land concession, the Companies' owners are becoming wealthy because government allowed them to cut and sale tree, land and more.
