Thai Patriots Network coordinator Veera Somkwamkid is "critically ill" and there is little time to appeal against his sentence, says his brother, Preecha.
Mr Preecha was commenting yesterday after a visit to Mr Veera at Prey Sar prison in Phnom Penh on Friday.
He said he found his 54-year-old brother to be suffering from many ailments and "critically ill".
Mr Preecha said there might not be enough time to appeal the sentence against his elder brother.
He said all efforts must now be directed towards seeking a royal pardon for Mr Veera and his secretary, Ratree Pipatanapaiboon, who are both detained at Prey Sar after being convicted on Feb1 of spying charges and illegal entry into Cambodia.
Former Buri Ram senator Karun Sai-ngam, one of their legal advisers, will provide further details of how to proceed with a request for a royal pardon, Mr Preecha said.
The Phnom Penh Municipal Court sentenced Mr Veera and his secretary, Ratree Pipatanapaiboon, to eight and six years in jail, respectively, for espionage and illegal entry into Cambodia on Dec29.
Mr Preecha urged Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen to step up efforts to help Mr Veera and Ms Ratree, as their relatives are now deeply concerned.
Meanwhile, Prapun Khunmee, co-leader of the People's Alliance for Democracy, said the PAD's lawyers will lodge a complaint against Mr Abhisit with the National Anti-Corruption Commission.
The PAD has accused Mr Abhisit of malfeasance causing the loss of territory.
PAD spokesman Parnthep Pourpongpan said the alliance is also running a signature collection campaign to impeach the prime minister.

2- CPP's Hun Sen see benefit in using Thai conflict. Years ago Hun Sen incited blind patriotism again Thai when Thai actress made comment about Angkor Wat. The whole Thai business in P.Penh are burnt out. Khmer people end up paying Thai $50 million dollars for the damage. Hun Sen could have stopped the protest but that is what he want. Now conflict with Thai again, that is what he want. Hun Sen is stupid for the Khmer people but not for himself.

I agree with you on releasing the two Thais currently in Cambodian jail. There is nothing wrong with Cambodia to show good intention to the neighbour by releasing them.
But obviously Hun Sen won't do that now because the conflict with Thailand, as you said, serves his purpose very well in hiding a much bigger problem on the eastern border.
As far as Hun Sen is concerned, it is not about protecting the territorial integrity of Cambodia, but about how he stay in power for ever and later on pass it onto his son.
The Vietnamese companies are now engaging in full force to clear the beautiful Prey Long forest with a purpose to grow the rubber trees. Is it necessary to clear Prey Long forest in order to grow the rubber trees? Can't they grow those rubber trees somewhere else where there are no trees.
I suspect they want to cut down good and expensive trees for lumber. The destruction of the good forest in Cambodia will have severe repercussion on the future of Cambodia.
Right now, the Preah Vihear issue takes center stage while the much bigger issues can buried under it in the way the Hun Sen government wants.

Veera is very contempt of Cambodia court. He never admit his wrong doing. He insisted he's innocent that the soil he was on was Thai soil. He found guilty trespassing and spying . Let him serve the time. Let it be a lesson for him to respect Cambodia boundary.

Will they be arrested and sent to jail for illegal entry to Cambodia as well?, since there 97 Khmer beggars were arrested and sent back to Cambodia for illegal entry to Vietnam?
I'm not for Hun Sen's court, but keep this Veera guy in there until he serves his term or admits that he intruded on khmer land......a lesson must be shown for the Thais arrogant theives......they don't see Cambodia as their equal partner they act like they are the regional power in SEA and bullying what they percieve as weak and inferior....
