The CPP is reviled by everyone in the world outside of Cambodia. In Cambodia, they are not respected but feared. They are indecent, immoral, violent thugs. The 21st century Khmer Rouge. If they could kill with abandon like the Khmer Rouge they would, as they possess the same mentality and inhibition, no morals, but under the watchful eyes of the human rights local and international community and the open porous borders (unlike the KR years), they cannot. Same ideology of oppression by fear and violence. Different era of openness.

There was never any hope for Mr Sam Rainsy. Cambodia today, as run by the many Samdach(es??), the higher you are the more corrupt you are expected to be. To be a high court judge you must know the system, and know how to play it for your own advantage, better than a lower-court judge. The lower-court judge must know it better than the court clerk. And so on it goes. So what hope did Sam Rainsy have in relying on some of the more corrupt people of the regime? Not much, as it is now obvious.
