TRIBUTES and APPRECIATIONS

Harnessing the Power and Creativity of the Young

I am deeply grateful to the dedicated staff of CIVICUS: Center for Cambodian Civic Education, here with a particular appreciation for the International Fellows, International and National Youth Ambassadors for their outstanding contribution.
Here’s to the power, beauty, openness, teachable spirit, creativity of the young everywhere, especially here in Cambodia!

A poster of Robert F. Kennedy, signed by his daughter Kerry Kennedy with one of the best compliments someone can possibly give me:  “For Theary, Who loves her country as Robert Kennedy loved his. With all my love, Kerry Kennedy”.  Before leaving Cambodia, Kerry signed about 50 posters, many personalized ones to CIVICUS Cambodia staff and the individuals who contributed so generously to the launching events of RFK Center’s Speak Truth To Power during Kerry’s inaugural visit to Cambodia, 22-26 Feb. 2011.

-  Theary C. Seng, CIVICUS Cambodia founding president, Phnom Penh

“Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
Robert F. Kennedy
Capetown, June 6th 1966

pretty but meaningless spam

Anonymous said...

its not meaningless. its a message from Theary Seng to Theary Seng expressing her deep appreciation of herself.

Anonymous said...

hahaha, true. But why is it posted on KI Media?

Anonymous said...

was this a fashion show? it seems so but why was it called "Speak Truth to Power"?

Anonymous said...

thank you for helping to make a real, lasting difference in cambodia like encouraging new thinking and openness, etc. god bless all in cambodia.

12:04 You seem to be up to something. could you please point out for everyone else what real, lasting difference was made? Like what exactly the new thinking is?

Should be worried about living Khmer Rouge like Hun Sen, and Viet.
_____________
Nuon Chea etc. are dead Khmer rouge. They no longer impose suffering.

_____________
The more you impose guilt on Khmer Rouge, the more Viet and CPP gain benefit from which they continue imposing suffering on innocent Khmer.

I doubt that inviting a large number of corrupt government officials for meals and small talk helps fostering good governance.

Anonymous said...

spamming is the new brainstorming

Anonymous said...

yeah, 12:42, there is so much fostering and so little good governance in Cambodia.

But having elegant young Khmer ladies serve appetizers to the patrons of the dictatorial regime is surely going to make it happen.

It show that one of KI members is Theary Seng. Cambodian Government should put her on a black list and get rid of her for good.

cambodia rules by hun sen shuold change to Youn Kro Torp Bodia is better.coz hun sen make khmer cheap even Leav 0r lao country look down on khmer.

I think KI Media should get rid of her spam. If she wants to contribute ideas, fine but photos of elegant ladies, no.

Anonymous said...

Why does KI Media allows itself to be used as Theary Seng's personal photo diary?

Anonymous said...

2:08AM! you want only boring black and white?

Anonymous said...

what I want is sensitive information about Cambodia. Like most people here.

Anonymous said...

this is what I want, too. maybe all can not be sensitive but at least it should be relevant, not trivial, like most Theary/Civicus-themed contributions so far.

It seems like there are a lot of Khmer people who come to KI Media to read news for free and yet they complain so much about Theary Seng's pictures and the like.

Remember folks, you pay nothing to read news on this site so take it easy and learn to be compassionate and tolerant especially to another Khmer individual.

If we buy subscription to this site then we can legitimately complain; otherwise, we should be providing constructive criticism by using appropriate language and providing logical reasons and not saying so many bad things about Theary and KI Media team.

Thank you KI Media Team for having worked all of these days for free.

8:11 AM,

KI and many of its readers also regularly take cheap shots of the Cambodian government, and they don't pay a single cent to legitimately subscribe to Cambodia...

What is not constructive when helping to point out to someone to do less advertising of her own self interests and "achievements."

What I read as no value is telling readers and the public, that I have a 'Dr.' title, but I don't want to use it by going with 'Ms' instead. If you 'anet' some readers here, please enlight in details how that kind of message contribute anything to anyone.

8:47 AM,

That kind of message to which you referred is posted by KI Media to indicate to those who constantly attack Ms. Theary Seng that she is not as arrogant as some people have accused her of being.

I think a lot of readers here have overeacted and should have used their energy to try to help the country they love rather than attack a Khmer lady who is trying to help the very same country everyone here professes to love.

11:32, I like some of your ideas but that particularly message regarding Theary's supposed educational achievements did exactly the opposite. To me, this message showed that Theary is much more arrogant than I thought.

Theary C. Seng - Angel on Earth

Theary Seng is one of the most egocentric women I met in my life. She doesn’t love Cambodia as much as she loves herself. With her behaviour she perverts the idealistic goals of most human rights defenders and oppositional politicians in Cambodia. Instead of working hard and producing something meaningful, she founds one organization after the other. Nothing she does is permanent, nothing is rooted, and nothing is serious at all.

Her strength is to attract more and more followers who are captured by her pretty face rather than her performance. Nearly everybody who has worked with her already knows her style as a colleague: irresponsible, superficial, inauthentic. She really thinks that it is enough only to be Theary Seng. She behaves like a tevedah-da-dei (angel on earth).

It makes me sad that KI-Media offers a platform for this unnecessary self-manifestation. You are so critical about Cambodia’s ruling elite, but your own credibility erodes significantly flattering that façade civil society activist. So I ask you: Please, please stop producing propaganda for Theary Seng!

Boo-hoo-hoo 5:54 you can't even spin convincingly.

Anonymous said...

I must say I find 5:54 very convincing. I agree. In contrast, people like 11:29 can only ridicule but not even that convincingly.
