When watching and hearing about the revolution that is shaking decades of dictatorship in the Arab world, I ask myself : When in Cambodia?
I have been in this business of building democracy for more than two long decades. Is there hope for change?
When is not the first question to ask.
I believe that the first question is: How?
Is the How happening?
I believe that the How is the grassroots movement which is happening on a small scale here in Cambodia, but independently in different parts of the country. When our farmers can walk over 200kilometers from the North-West to the city to lodge their complaints, I think the government sees this as the beginning of a big movement. This explains the cracking down on demonstrators- almost always with violence and even against women and children.
We must nurture these movements by fighting for liberties and freedoms. Women have a huge part in this fight as women are first to be affected by injustice, violence and discrimination.
We must join our sisters at Beung Kak Lake in Phnom Penh whose families have been totally destroyed along with their homes and belongings, because of the so called ‘development’ which mainly consists land grabbing by the state. we must join the 10,000 residents of this community when they demonstrate. We have been silent and watching from afar.
Next time they are demonstrating, let us join them by the thousands!
For those who have access to internet and are active on Facebook, make the change happen faster by listening to Women’s Voices-Women’s Choices, every Sunday from 11Am-12PM on 93.5FM. Express your opinion, make yourselves heard. Give the young women producers and staff your support.
Change cannot happen when we are comfortable inside the safety of our homes. Make yourself heard!

If Madam Sochua were serious about building democracy, she would start with her party. Otherwise, she is just playing politics for the sake of politics.
et al
Yeah she loves photos with the poor the vulnerable.

I think she should continue to build democracy through elections rather promoting blood bath demonstration to follow Rab world.
Do it through elections is more peaceful mean and won't lose as many lives. To start an uprising Hun sen will kill many people plus sochua will be targeted for provoking it.
Sochua can try first if she likes but don't run away to hide abroad.
Ms. Mu is right. People can make changes happen through many ways of peaceful protests - peaceful sit-ins/marches, speeches, boycots of certaing services. Many are now clinging on to the hope that they can experience one day the riches of the few - which is totally false because the equality and justice are not afforded to everybody.
To 4.41AM, 4.44AM and 5.21AM. You three are nothing but people who have benefitted from the suffering of Khmers at present. I am almost certain that you are the type of people who were part of the KR cadre spying on their friends and families for Angka, identifying the "Kmung" and the CIA operatives so they could be eliminated from the revolution. Perhaps you were not directly involved, but from your comments I'd say that you are capable of letting others suffer while you bend backwards for your master just so you can survive or get rich. You must be proud men indeed. Men with balls! Such powerful, virile men you all are that you would let your police beat up homeless women and children, and you NOT ONLY don't do anything to help those women and children, but actually put down those who have taken the initiative to help. Are you all so lacking in moral? Are money and power to hurt the poor now the sole aims of your lives? Mu Sochua and the SRP, with all their shortcomings, are at least trying to stop the rot that has set into Khmer society once again. They have used all means and resources to find justice, to find solutions, to stop quiet foreign invasion, that the CPP with all the aid money, the natural resources, and the manpower (not to mention gun power) available to them have not been able, or perhaps more accurately not willing, to do. They had tried diplomacy, they had tried embarrassing the government into action, like the border stakes by Mr Sam Rainsy. Still, the corruption, the beatings, the attacks, the deforestation, the nepotism, and the inbreeding go on. And yes, the SRP has it faults, but I believe that the list is probably 1/1000 of that of the CPP. One last thing, the oft-repeated comment that SRP members usually run away overseas when faced with jail or injury. All i can say is, no one will run anywhere if the CPP and Hun Sen stops using jail and beatings, and killings as part of his repertoire. Perhaps a bit of co-operation and acceptance of criticism from him is the solution? Of course, you three would never see that, because you are afraid to admit that your boss IS the cause of the problems. AM i talking to brack walls here? Perhaps.
Koh Tral Island must not be forgotten
By Ms. Rattana Keo
Why do Koh Tral Island, known in Vietnam as Phu Quoc, a sea and land area covering proximately over 10,000 km2 [Note: the actual land size of Koh Tral itself is 574 square kilometres (222 sq miles)] have been lost to Vietnam by whose treaty? Why don’t Cambodia government be transparent and explain to Cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?
Cambodian armies are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 on the Thai border and what's about over 10,000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian armies you are decide the fate of your nation, Cambodian army as well as Cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?
Koh Tral Island, the sea and land area of over 10,000 square kilometres have been lost to Vietnam by the 1979 to 1985 treaties. The Cambodian army at front line as well as all Cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are Cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protecting a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group but disguising as protecting the Khmer nation?
The Cambodian army at front lines suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition and their families have no health care assistance, no securities after they died but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning system with message from young girls, have first class medical care from oversea medical treatments, they are billionaires, millionaires who sell out the country to be rich and make the Cambodian people suffer everyday.
Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that resulted in the loss over 10,000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why they are not being transparent and brave enough to inform all Cambodians and Cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't they include Koh Tral (Koh Tral size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen and bigger than Singapore [Note: Singapore's present land size is 704 km2 (271.8 sq mi)]) with heap of great natural resources, in the Cambodian education system?
Look at Hun Sen's families, relatives and friends- they are billionaires, millionaires. Where did they get the money from when we all just got out of war with empty hands [in 1979]? Hun Sen always say in his speeches that Cambodia had just risen up from the ashes of war, just got up from Year Zero with empty hands and how come they are billionaires, millionaires but 90% of innocent Cambodian people are so poor and struggling with their livelihood every day?
Smart Khmer girl Ms. Rattana Keo,
Pailin people must make the great revolution!
Let's get all the weapons that Khmer Rough's regime have been hiding under the mountains to fight for freedom of real democracy of Cambodia.
Let's fight and push to The capital city today!
If we don't dare to die today our children won't escape poverty from generation to generation. They are selling Cambodia to be richer! THey are making us poorer and sufferer everyday. That's enough talk! Let's fight!
Disgraced Mu Sokhua when a lot of Khmer women had been hurted and ran away from Thailand's attacking near Preah Vihear Temple from 4 to 7 February 2011, where were you? why you didn't go to help those Khmer women? And now, you are shameless appealing to Khmer women to uprising against the government by using the event in Arab world as your excuse. If you want to promote your political stunt, make sure don't just ask other women to uprising, you and your three daughters must come first, then wait and see what will happen to you and your three daughters?
Remember, change cannot happen when many women have suffered, while disgraced Mu Sokhua was on holiday in overseas and comfortable inside the safety of her home enjoy life with her skills to please her white man.
To 2:08 PM That is not sound to bad as CPP group mate! They sell out Cambodia and murdered thousands to be remain in power!
I would love to fuck with those twos
Khmer people need to get involed in this program...to know and to learn...
let us all join the demonstration to save our country.
There will a facebook for Khmer Revolution. Please join us to fight the dictator Hun Sen.
