The Abhisit government must exercise utmost care in dealing with Cambodia's latest request for the World Court to clarify the 1962 ruling about the Preah Vihear temple.
A statement issued by the Cambodian Foreign Ministry last Friday said the request was prompted by ''Thailand's repeated armed aggression to exert its claims to Cambodian territory''. A clarification by the court was of ''the utmost necessity in order to peacefully and definitely settle the boundary problem'', it added.
The International Court of Justice in The Hague - also known as the World Court - ruled in 1962 that the 11th-century temple belongs to Cambodia; but both countries claim ownership of a 4.6sqkm surrounding area, where several armed clashes have taken place in recent years.
Cambodia's request for a clarification from the Court follows its failed attempts to bring the conflict to the United Nations Security Council, where it hopes to gain support from sympathetic Western countries, particularly France, its colonial master.
The Abhisit government must be fully prepared to defend Thailand in the World Court, bearing in mind that the Hun Sen government wants to claim ownership of the 4.6sqkm disputed area.
The stakes are high and a misstep could cause Thailand to lose that crucial plot of land. In addition to its request to the World Court, Phnom Penh may also be hoping for stronger support from France, which will soon take the presidency of the 10-member UNSC.

Now I clearly understand why King Of Cambodia was not able to attend William and Kate wedding, because of France, the Cambodia's master. French President, Sarkozy was not invited to the wedding, and if the King goes, it could upset Sarkozy. If the master was not invited why should the servant attend?

ah siem thugs are so clumsy with cambodia. they always look down of cambodia for beign different from them, etc! and they wanted to steal from cambodia like they did in past dark ages of cambodia, really! that is not acceptable anymore, ok! cambodia is changed and there are law now, so stop stealing from cambodia again, ok!
yes, if you know history of cambodia. france did favor viet/youn over cambodia/khmer during their colonial period in these countries. that's why when cambodia and youn gained independence from france, france automatically gave kampuchea krom to youn without even consult with cambodia and khmer people first, you know! and khmer people never forget this french act that violated khmer's rights by granting kampuchea krom land to youn after independence. we know our history, really! that's why cambodia never trust foreign colonization again after when the french did to cambodia during their colonial time in cambodia, you know! so, don't hate cambodia for reacting from this historical lesson, ok! instead try to understand how khmer get our national psyche from, ok! yes, it was for a reason, to love, care and protect cambodia, our ancestral land of the khmer people, ok! get used to it, ok! cambodia is always cambodia, ok!
