SINGAPORE — Terrified passengers aboard a Cathay Pacific plane prayed together as their aircraft, one of its engines on fire, made its way back to Singapore on Monday, and their calm response earned praise from the captain.

Cathay Pacific said the Airbus 330, bound for Jakarta with 136 passengers on board, landed back in Singapore "without incident" just before 2 a.m. It said the crew shut down the engine after receiving a "stall warning."

Reuters photographer Beawiharta was aboard the plane with his wife, two sons and daughter. About 20 minutes after take-off, there were two sharp bangs, sending cabin staff scurrying to retrieve the meals they had only just begun serving.

The plane began shaking violently, he said, and the lights went out. He could smell something burning.

His son, Pradipta, 15, said he saw nothing as he peered out the window.

"But I asked him to cup his hands to get a better view," Beawiharta said. "He shouted: 'I see fire! I see fire!'

"Panicked, he then asked: 'Will we die? Will we die?' I took his hand and told him firmly: 'No, we are going to live.'

"Behind us, passengers were praying: 'God, save our flight! Give us your protection!'"

Prayers and panic
The prayers got louder and louder, pierced by only the occasional cry of panic.

"A stewardess told us an engine had caught fire and we were on our way back to Singapore. Glued to the window, my son said he could see lights, the sea and ships and then lights on the ground. We all grabbed life jackets from beneath our seats, but the plane landed smoothly.

"Within five minutes, as firefighters doused the damaged engine, we walked off the plane into the terminal."

In the waiting room, the pilot greeted assembled passengers.

"The best that we can ever ask of passengers is to stay cool, stay calm ... which you did," he said. "And for that we thank you."

Flight CX715 had taken off from Singapore heading to the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, at 1:12 a.m., but soon turned around after engine trouble and landed at 1:57 a.m., Singapore's Changi Airport said in a statement.

Firefighters extinguished the fire and normal flight operations resumed on the runway about an hour later, the airport said.

It was the second time in six months an Airbus had to make an emergency landing in Singapore because of engine problems. A Qantas A380 turned around shortly after takeoff Nov. 4 when one of its Rolls-Royce Trent 900 engines disintegrated.

The airport would not say how many passengers were on board Monday's flight or what kind of engines the plane used. A spokesman for Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific was not immediately available for comment.

The Associated Press and Reuters contributed to this report.

Tran Minh Tri, 56, stands in front of his class holding a large stick in his right hand. He strikes it against a desk to draw his pupils’ attention. They repeat back his instructions in Vietnamese.
The blackboard behind him is covered in Vietnamese. This could be a scene taken from anywhere in rural Vietnam, only Lien Huu School is in the floating village of Chong Koh, Kampong Chhnang province.
“None of the lessons are in Khmer,” says Tran Minh Tri. “I can’t teach in Khmer.”
Born in Vietnam, Tran Minh Tri came to Cambodia 20 years ago to trade fish. He started teaching at the school five years ago because he “believes in Jesus”. The cross above the school gives away the religious nature of the school.
“The children are good,” he says. “They live around here and come by boat.”
The overwhelming majority of Kampong Chhnang’s boat people are Vietnamese.

Huon Vorn, the village chief for neighbouring Kandal village, estimates there are about 360 families in Chong Koh, of which maybe 30 are Khmer. In his village only 40 out of the 474 families are ethnic Khmer, including his own.
Like most of the structures in the floating village, the school is built on buoyant pontoons. Most of the houses in Kandal village are built on stilts.
“The main problem is when the big storms come,” says Tran Minh Tri. Then houses can come loose from their moorings.
With an average class size of about 50 students, Tran Minh Tri admits it is tiring work. He also has no cover. “When I am ill there is no school,” he says.
According to Huon Vorn, Lien Huu is one of two floating schools in Kampong Chhnang. Neither teaches in Khmer. The few Khmers who live on the water send their children to school on the mainland. The Vietnamese children also go there once they have completed Grade 4.
“We try to teach Vietnamese to the children first and then they go to the Khmer school afterwards,” says Tran Minh Tri.
However, change is on its way.
“A primary school is being constructed on the land near the Vietnamese pagoda,” says Huon Vorn. “The funds for the new school have come from a Vietnamese association in Australia. It will be completed by the time the floods come.”
The village leader adds that there are plans to move his villagers voluntarily from the water to dry land, although precise plans have not yet been presented to the villagers. “The majority of them do not want to go anywhere,” he says. “This is where they work.”

SRAEL AT 63: AN EXPORT SUPERPOWER: As Israel celebrates 63 years of being an independent state, it turns out that it is an export superpower. According to figures published on Tuesday by the Israel Export Institute and presented by the Globes financial news paper, since its establishment in 1948 Israel has multiplied the volume of goods it exports to the world by an astonishing 13,400. The figures also show Israel has gone from exporting a “modest” amount of about $6 million in 1948 to exporting no less than $80.5 billion in 2010. The well-known Jaffa oranges, which were the pride and joy of Israel’s export industry for many years, have taken a few steps back. Israel’s high tech and R&D (research and development) sectors were at the top of the export list last year, totaling approximately $28.5 billion and constituting about 35% of Israel’s exports in 2010. However, the oranges are not out quite yet, as figures show that agricultural exports also grew in the last year, totaling $1.3 billion. Israel has long been a leader in diamond exports, according to the report. Since the founding of the state, Israel’s diamond exports have multiplied by 3,190. While in the early years of statehood the scope of diamond exports from Israel to the world stood at about $2.8 million, in 2010 exports amounted to approximately $8.9 billion. The Israel Export Institute estimated that exports will continue to rise in 2011 by about another 7%. If these forecasts are realized, the total amount of Israeli exports by the end of next year will be a whopping $86 billion. (INN) “I am the Lord your God who teaches you to profit.” Isa 48:17

Figure this out.....>

"Remember me, Lord, when you show favor to your people, come to my aid when you save them, that I may enjoy the prosperity of your chosen ones, that I may share in the joy of your nation and join your inheritance in giving praise.” Ps 106: 4-5

FACTS ABOUT ISRAEL’S POPULATION: : Israel’s population has grown to 7.7 million on the eve of its 63rd Independence Day. This is an astounding figure, given there were just 806,000 residents when the Israeli state was reborn in 1948. Jews make up 75% of the population, but there is a significant Arab minority which comprises about 20% of the nation. Non-Jewish immigrants and their children account for about five percent of the population. While there are many similarities between Israel and a country like Canada, population density is not one of them. Canada has about three people per square kilometer. Israel has 100 times that density, making it the second-most dense country in the world. Israel now has about 150,000 Christians, a population that has grown about 400 percent from 39,000 since 1949. Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population in the world. Israel produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation by a large margin - 109 per 10,000 people - as well as one of the highest per capita rates of patents filed. In proportion to its population, Israel has the largest number of startup companies in the world. In absolute terms, Israel has the largest number of startup companies than any other country in the world, except the US. (CIC)

O taste and see that the LORD is good.

Who is the FOOL, Israeli or Cambodian?

Baay Kdaing said...

1/ The reason the Israel population increased so fast because Israel asked all Jewish people around the world to move to Israel but most people who claimed to be Jewish from poor country like Africa and Russia who moved there.

2/ The reason Israel wants to increase her population is to counter balance with Arab population which grove at a very fast rate (most Arab people have big family, they re good at making babies-lots of them) and if Israel does not do that, they will become the minority in the land which surrounded by hostile Arab nations.

By increasing her population, Israel government realized that they need more lands to accommodate them and guess where they are going to get those lands from?.

The same the Viet government, when they need more lans for their people, guess whey they get more land from?

I bet the money comes from Viet government but they don't want to say it because it would make Cambodians feel uneasy.

Israel will expand their borders not from taking land that don't belong to them but by a promise from their God. The land of Israel belongs to God and God had given it to the Jewish people long ago. As of now Israel is not occupying all that is theirs.

As for the population they are not trying to compete against Muslims.
God has promised that he will regather all the Jewish people back to their land in the near future. This is why you see an increase in Jews making aliyah back to their homeland.

There is coming a major war between Israel and Muslims countries. Israel will have the victory over the Muslim nations. And many, if not all Jews will return after the war taken place they will feel safe to return as God had promised. All of this been arranged by their God.

The nations are dumb. They want to destroy Israel instead of blessing her. Without the Jews, this world would be in great darkness.

When Israel is in peace, the world will know peace. Peace can only come through the nation of Israel. God will make Israel the head of nations. You haven't seen nothing yet what Israel will be like when their king, Yeshua(Jesus)reign in Jerusalem, this world will have true peace & justice for all.

I know Israel is the better one (I don't mean in military term) in the middle east and I have a lot of Jewish friends but I think it' s a crap to claim that GOD gave any land to any nation out right or you can show me the proof
