Laos has agreed to swap with Burma for the chairmanship of Asean in 2014, The Nation has learned.

At the senior official meeting, the Laotian officials said that they would not mind switching with Burma with its chair in 2014. Cambodia and Brunei will the Asean chair in 2012 and 2013 respectively.

After the setting up of a new civilian government under President Thein Sein at the end of March, Burma wrote to the Asean leaders that the country was ready to resume the chair, which it skipped in 2015 due to pressure from Asean.

At the recent special meeting in Bangkok, the Asean foreign ministers said that the resumption of chairmanship is not automatic and it would depend on the situation on the ground. Asean has proposed to dispatch a fact finding team to Burma to access its readiness and overall situation. So far, Nayphidaw has not yet responded.

When the Asean leaders meet at their retreat later tonight in Jakarta, they have to decide whether to defer the matter or make the decision right away. Other issues on the agenda include the modality of East Asia Summit, the implementation of Asean Connectivity, the future of Asean in a global community.

Indonesia switched its 2013 chairmanship with Brunei for the rotation this year.

Hun Sen said he is not buying any more weapon for the Khmer soldiers at the border. He said he wants them all die with poorly arms so no is left to turn a gun back at him.

He wants the conflict to last forever in order to recruits more Khmer nationalists to die there. He said he wants to wipe out Khmer nationalists for good this time. He regret they not all were wiped out during his time as a Khmer Rouge leader.

It's an inside information.

Thats true! I agreed with above comments.

All the border with thai is ALL politic, and not border issue.

The real border issue is with vietnam.

If Cambodia is an independent country, I may join with all my compatriots to fight against my aggressors and invaders of my country but since Cambodia is controlled and ruled by yuon/yuon clones, all resources and richness are in yuon’s hand while left khmer people with nothing, I SAY, ALL CAMBODIANS Who CONSIDER THEMSELVES AS KHMERS MUST SUPPORT SOURN SEREY RATHA IDEA. Don’t fall in false nationalism displayed by yuons/cpp

I agree, Sourn serey ratha has dictator tendency, he is arrogant, rude, and only listens to himself, but I think sourn serey rather can change, he has to change if he want change. He had to learn to be a softer his behaviors, listen to other, learn to make consessino and working with other compatriots.

Sourn serey rather, those are what you has to change if you care for Cambodia, wants support from other Khmer and want your political career to continue, if not your political career will die here.

You need support from a strong group khmer who can manage "think tank" and high political strategies for Cambodia. You must connect to these people and aks help from them. You know what I meant. BA
