BANGKOK, May 1 (MCOT online news) -- The Thai cabinet will be asked this Tuesday to appointing a committee to counter an appeal lodged by Phnom Penh government to the World Court to clarify its 1962 ruling about the ancient Preah Vihear temple, which sits on the disputed border with Thailand, as clashes between the two neighbouring countries continued.
Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said Sunday during his weekly TV and radio address--held for the last time before he dissolves the lower house and call for a general election--that he would ask the cabinet during its weekly meeting this Tuesday to formally appoint a committee to counter Cambodia appeals to the International Court of Justice.
The Phnom Penh foreign ministry last Friday said it had made a request “for an interpretation of the Court’s judgment … concerning the temple of Preah Vihear which was prompted by Thailand’s repeated armed aggression to exert its claims on Cambodian territory.”
According to the statement, clarification by the court was of “the utmost necessity … in order to peacefully and definitely settle the boundary problem between the two countries in the area.”
In 1962, the court ruled that the 11th century Preah Vihear belonged to Cambodia, but both countries claim ownership of a 4.6-square-kilometre (1.8-square-mile) surrounding the area.
Mr Abhisit assured Thais that although the House of Representatives would be dissolved, expected sometime in early May, his caretaker government would continue to perform its duty in order to “protect Thailand’s benefit and sovereignty.”
The prime minister added although the border conflict is prolonged, it will not affect his planned House dissolution and the upcoming election, as the army can do its job and control the situation.
If the situation remains as it is during the next couple days where no heavy weapons have been used during the clashes, Mr Abhisit said, local residents earlier evacuated to temporary shelters will be allowed to return to their homes.
Meanwhile, Col Prawit Hukaew, spokesman of Second Army Region Command, said two minor clashes continued Saturday near Ta Kwai temple in Surin’s Phanom Dong Rak district.
The first skirmish occurred at 7.00 p.m. after a number of Cambodian soldiers patrolling near Ta Kwai temple opened fire at Thai soldiers, forcing Thai soldiers to retaliate and fired back. Both sides exchanged gunfire for a short period.
Col Prawit said both sides clashed again at 9.45 p.m. and this time only machine guns and hand grenades were used. The fighting lasted until about 11.00 p.m.
Casualties of both sides were still unknown, he said.
Soldiers of the two countries have been fighting near the temple since April 22 with each side claiming to be attacked by the other first.

I think Ahbulshit did not understand English. We just asked the World Court to clarify the ruling. It is about the already-ruled verdict. We do not retake the case to the court. Ok. Clarigying the ruling that thai-land withdraw their troop from the territory under sovereignety of cambodia.
Thai govt & mouthpieces go on calling it an "appeal" when it isn't & can't be - ever since the 10-year window for appeals closed for good in 1972. Doesn't matter that Thailand didn't/doesn't like the ruling - it's there and it applies.
Also unlikely the ICJ will go at all far in providing clarification of its already clear ruling (both what is in it and what's not in it). The current request for clarification basically only a] reinforces Cambodia's "multilateral" not "bilateral" stance to achieve resolution of the remaining border disputes and b] gives Thailand an excuse to go on doing nothing constructive until the ICJ clarification (such as it might be) is issued.

Khmer people needed to change an attitudes toward Thai and work in our house first kick all the CPP and Vietnamese out of CAMBODIA. Khmer people can not fight an enemy if we are homeless, poorest, starvation, suffering, hardship and country less. Khmer needed to solve an internal crisis first.
Today 50% of Khmer people living like a refugees in their motherland Cambodia due to Hun Sen's forced evictions and financial crisis.
All Khmer people will not survive without CAMBODIA. If CAMBODIA is not autonomy, independence, sovereignty, Vietnamese involvements and movements.
The last KHMER ERA is in the Vietnamese dirty political involvements and movements inside the CPP's backbone.
ALL KHMER PEOPLE IN THE WORLD MUST INVOLVE IN ANY SITUATIONS TO SAVE CAMBODIA FROM THE VIETNAMESE EXPANSION NOW OR CAMBODIA WILL BE GONE LIKE KHMER KROM.

You only talk about Khmer Krom, what about Khmer Loeu or Khmer Surin.
Almost very day some of us called our Khmer in Cambodia or the Cambodian government as Vietnam puppet or traitor.
Some were going too far by attacking the Cambodian Government and did not want, that our government protected our Country or defended our country again the Thai aggressor.
Who are the real traitors or foreigner puppets ?
Thai will become a heroes for cambodian because cambodia bring the old map to the world court to
clarify and Thai want the world court to clarify all the border of cambodia by using 1962 map.and Thai
point out the court go to Vietnam and Cambodia border first before come to Thai and cambodia border.

In 1997 Hun Sen and regime terrorized Khmer protest supporters of Sam Rainsy in cold blood with guns and grenades, hundreds died and hundreds more were injured.
After the incident, hundreds more were either executed in their homes or imprisoned.
Many more were intimidated. People's life were at risk of being kill at any time. The only way out was to join the CPP.
It's this tactic that turn people against Hun Sen's regime. They wish the Thai finish off his regime for good.
It's not a traitor, it's just an equal and opposite reactions to Hun Sen's cold blood regime.
KI, Khmerization are Thai secret agents. We can note that all articles place in this web are Bangkok post, Nation...but show little about Cambodian opinion. Pro opposition party is alright but pro-Thai invaders is very concerned.
