Cambodia means serious business [... if only the author knows the price Cambodia has to pay for!!!]

A recent post by The Economist turned the spotlight on Cambodia. The focus was not on the sublime beauty of its historical sites nor was it on its notorious child-sex industry. The attention was on how fast Cambodia is industrializing and building up its infrastructure. According to the post, Phnom Penh is in the process of building a new container terminal, and plans to build two new ports. Mekong is described to be a potential “commercial highway.”

Two major players, or rather rivals, are said to be fighting for a larger slice of the pie in Cambodia: China and Vietnam. Half of Cambodia’s foreign investment comes from China.

However, Cambodia is not just a silent recipient of foreign investment from other Asian and Southeast Asian nations, in my opinion. Cambodia has liberalized trade with its neighbors. More importantly, it appears that its government officials and agencies are making commendable efforts in advancing foreign business interests in its country.

A travel brochure from a Malaysian travel agency features a 4-day business trip to Cambodia. The itinerary is filled with business meetings with Cambodian officials, representatives from the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, as well as a tour of the Olympic and Orussey markets. This is an example of what Cambodia is doing in Malaysia: business tourism. Cambodia might very well be promoting business tourism in many other parts of the world. As Asian and Western nations try to tap into the nascent Cambodian market, the Khmer reaches out and courts other nations as well.

It is fascinating to see Cambodia modernize and to take advantage of business opportunities that are presented to them, and that they have created for themselves. Perhaps they might modernize the same way as China, perhaps not. It would be interesting to see how this turns out.

of course with any development anywhere on earth, it comes with a cost, whether it's environmental cost, human eviction or relocation, impact on living lifestyle, etc, etc! however, that shouldn't deter cambodia from go ahead with development like the rest of the world out there, really! phnom penh and the rest of cambodia should be developed into a vibrant, economic country that we saw happening all over asia for that matter, really! i want cambodia to develop into a modern nation of educated, market economy with higher standard of living, good sanitation, good infrastructure, etc, etc... why not? other countries are doing just that, why not cambodia as well, really!

it's called change and cambodia should change and adapt to new way, etc, you know! time does not stand still, ok, so cambodia must not stand still either, ok! we want to be like other modern countries out there, ok! god bless cambodia.

Ah really! really! really!
I guess it is ok for the development to come to your home and land.
It is also ok when you only get back 5% of your original investment value.

OK, Mike! Any country want to DEVELOPE their country including Cambodia BUT other country knows WHERE and HOW to do it like giving a fair market value to the land owners not just forcing their owners out of their property with little or no compensation at all.

The other problem is all the stupid CPP are greedy, they sell other people' s property without their owner knowledge, one of them is Ah Hun Sen cousin. So far, he's not been punished yet.

Imagine if it were SRP member, they don't have to commit such a big crime....let say he/she cut the tree branches in the dispute, he/she would be sent to jail for years right away.

In some other case where the developer tried to compensate the land owners, the real land owners did not have the name to receive the compensation but the relatives of the village leader who never lived there was/were the one who receive the compensation.

Every body at CPP are rotten to the core. There are accountability with them what so ever. When get caught, they mumble jumble like a 2 yrs old kid with his hand in the cookies jar.

And when you feel that you' ve been treated unjust and go to court, it's even more rotten in their (un)justice system. They twist, twirl or reshape the law to benefit their crony.

Stupid Khmer very hard to deal with.

Can assure you that Cambodia will lean towards China! FUCK WHORENAM!

We must learn from history. The communist youn-vietnam-vietcong never had any good intention toward cambodia.

All asian countries should ban all thing vietnam vietcong.

Communist youn vietnam vietcong is the aggressor and terrorist in Lao, Cambodia, Thailand, Burma, and Khmer Krom.

Asia will be more dangerous if the communist vietnam vietcong is allowed to have market dominance in S.E.A.

Communist vietnam vietcong violate all its neighbors' sovereignty. There are living evidences...just look around now.

we must be smarter now when dealing with the Vietnam vietcong.

Koh Tral Island must not be forgotten

By Ms. Rattana Keo

Why do Koh Tral Island, known in Vietnam as Phu Quoc, a sea and land area covering proximately over 30,000 km2 [Note: the actual land size of Koh Tral itself is 574 square kilometres (222 sq miles)] have been lost to Vietnam by whose treaty? Why don’t Cambodia government be transparent and explain to Cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?

Cambodian armies are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 on the Thai border and what's about over 30,000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian armies you are decide the fate of your nation, Cambodian army as well as Cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?

Koh Tral Island, the sea and land area of over 30,000 square kilometres have been lost to Vietnam by the 1979 to 1985 treaties. The Cambodian army at front line as well as all Cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are Cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protecting a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group but disguising as protecting the Khmer nation?

The Cambodian army at front lines suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition and their families have no health care assistance, no securities after they died but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning system with message from young girls, have first class medical care from oversea medical treatments, they are billionaires, millionaires who sell out the country to be rich and make the Cambodian people suffer everyday.

Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that resulted in the loss over 30,000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why they are not being transparent and brave enough to inform all Cambodians and Cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't they include Koh Tral (Koh Tral size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen and bigger than Singapore [Note: Singapore's present land size is 704 km2 (271.8 sq mi)]) with heap of great natural resources, in the Cambodian education system?

Look at Hun Sen's families, relatives and friends- they are billionaires, millionaires. Where did they get the money from when we all just got out of war with empty hands [in 1979]? Hun Sen always say in his speeches that Cambodia had just risen up from the ashes of war, just got up from Year Zero with empty hands and how come they are billionaires, millionaires but 90% of innocent Cambodian people are so poor and struggling with their livelihood every day?

Smart Khmer girl Ms. Rattana Keo,

Mr Sam Rainsy, Why don't sue PM Hun Sen as you promise to us Cambodian people and your true supporters?

Are you tried to bargain with PM Hun Sen again like 2005 lawsuit at America??? Why?? Why??

We want to see Mr Sam Rainsy act as he said to sue PM Hun Sen in every democracy Countries court of justice around the world.

We want the results as transparency, from your progress in suing PM Hun Sen in every court of justices!!!

We are Cambodian people afraid that you are just using the lawsuit to scare PM Hun Sen than when PM Hun Sen gives you (Mr Sam Rainsy) green light. You again, hang your Lawsuit like 2005.

Mr Sam Rainsy, You must do as you said, otherwise you the same as Mr Kim Soka.

Mr Sam Rainsy, where are your law suit VS Hun SEn in America Court of justice? We want to see and hear the stories transparency because we afraid that you are just try to bargain with Hun Sen like 2005 again.

We Cambodian people as well as your supporters are waiting to see your real action in suing PM Hun Sen (In America Court of justice, all countries’ court of justice in Europe, Japan Court of justice, Australia Court of justice, New Zealand court of justice, Canada court of Justice, UN court of justice, World Human Right court of justice, NATO court of justice…) as you Mr Sam Rainsy said.

Mr Sam Rainsy must do as you said OK. Don’t you dare to bargain with PM Hun Sen like 2005 again?

May be you can’t be Prime Minister of Cambodia because of unfair election as 5-6 million Vietnamese votes for Hun Sen and Hun Sen add up his cheating skill in election but you can be a great Khmer Hero by suing PM Hun Sen about the facts that he has done to Cambodia and Cambodian people so far.

Can’t be Prime Miniter due unfair election all the times but Mr Sam Rainsy can gives a great stain to PM Hun Sen and CPP Vietnam slave about their crimes against Cambodian people since 1970 until today.

Hey 7:21
One of these day that COST will happen to you (unless you are one of Hun Sen cronies) when the CPP will come and steal your property just like Pol Pot did. Do you know the different between fair market compensation for private property under eminent domain that benefit society in general and stealing one private person property to give to another private individual?
