did you know sanskrit was once a language of cambodia's elitists or ruling leaders back in the old angkor khmer empire! pali was the language of khmer buddhist religion!
It took France, a European nation to piece together the puzzle of Baphuon.
No other country on the face of the earth (including India herself; I had been there, albeit briefly!) better exemplified the great culture of ancient India in terms of religious monuments as an art form and in terms of the sheer physical size of their achievements. Even a recently built Hindu temple in England had been inspired by Angkor temples.
Not only that, ironically, India's most noticeable contribution to post-war Cambodia had been the widespread and irredeemable damage done to the outer galleries' bas relief of Cambodia's most treasured monument of Angkor Wat.
One cannot help but imagine how many other Khmer monuments or ruins like Baphuon would have been restored to their near original conditions had the wars not interrupted French archeologists and their Khmer students' effort.
Anyway, thanks to France for helping to preserve Khmer civilisation and heritage.
As for India, I am sure she can assist Cambodia in other areas.
i think khmer arts, although influenced by ancient india's belief, was uniquely khmer in our own rights, you know!

May be Indian faithfully copy Khmer art, we never know. If we compare the temple in Cambodia and temple in India there is none of Indian temple like Cambodian temple, Indian temples are relatively small and its art like doll display. If Hindu is biggest religion of Indian why Hindu temple builded by Khmer are vast concentration in Cambodia during Angkorian period rather than India?
Remember Indian expert used acid to clean up Angkor Wat but now the sand stone decay and melt down and her art form are disappeared, these damages is irreversible.
Please do not trust India, poor country do poor thing, when I made visit to Angkor Thom which under Indian renovation and I did not see any progress except I did see Indian expert hanging around and bossy to Cambodia labours. I do no know where these Indian expertises try to copy or steal the art model or just figure out what to do or to steal.
We Khmer who build countless temple we should be the one who expert for fixing our temple. Of course we need fund.
One side of the Angkor Wat wall was ruined by the Indian who try to fix the Ankor wat. Normally, the stone is dark and shiney. But the indian architect or engineers sanded the stone into white or grayish color. They really ruined the original look. It is very disappointing job. Never understand why the dumbass doing it. We do not need them. Let the French and eauropean take care the temples. They observe and check carefully before they start the job.
khmer artists were master builders, cambodia's khmer art works at angkor reflects the genuious of khmer architecture, etc!
Khmer empire engineers had built
different styles from India,Champa,
and Indonesia or from old day
European styles.
The European countries,Arab world,
Indonesia,and India made business
and traded with Khmer empire.
Khmer architectures, maybe, learned from them, but not totally copied them.
Khmer engineers built beautiful buildings and carved stones on
building walls with Khmer daily
life.
The Khmer empire believed in
Brahma;later they believed in
Buddha Mahayana;then believed in
Hinayana as they believed today.
Khmer empire got two religions
from India:Brahma and Buddha.
