the thing we have to understand too is that this kind of disparity we will see everywhere all over the world, especially if we get a chance to travel all over the world, you know! social problems like these is not unique or confined only to cambodia, we have to understand this. that said, of course, as a good citizen, we all want our beloved country of cambodia to pay more attention to this sort of social problems. however, it takes a lot of patience and education and time to fix it. no country on earth is immuned or perfect in that sense, you know. that, we have to be able to understand. there are lots more works to be done, though. call for more reforms in all sectors. it is being proactive that will make a real, lasting difference. work as a team will get more things done than being selfish and bad attitude about it all, really! take from the experienced and the wise or learned men, ok!
i think cheap booze and sex is good for some sector of tourism in cambodia, however, it not everything in life, though. there are more to cambodia or in life than just cheap booze and sex, although, nightlife can help boost the tourism industry as well, bu it's not all of it, though. well, it's good for people to have choice in their recreation, just not drugs, though!
I think the majority of the people that this article mention are the people who went back to Srok Khmer just for their pleasure. Another word, they're either single and their main purpose is booze and sex. So, other things are easily overlook.
......and then, you have those that just wanted to visit their family which is probably lived in one of those house in the picture.
i think if we all want to help make a real, lasting difference in cambodia, demand gov't reforms and the use of the rule of law society. that's the only way for justice in cambodia. people will always be people, however, the rule of law will keep them in line with the justice for all, i believe! one way to do this to strengthen the 3 branches of gov't i.e. the judicial system, the legislative syste and the executive system, they all in themselves can act as check and balance of gov't without the interence of the opposition lame excuses, i think! look into it, cambodia, it can help reform the gov't system, you know! come study in america more in the future for leadership ability, ok! you know america, cambodia uses american dollars, that's how powerful and desirable america is to cambodia, you know! wake up already, ok!

In order for your ideas to work, you must start from the top. Otherwise, it's pointless. The leader must be corrupt free. Lead by example and the rest will follow.
Since 1993 election, we have tried everything. Hun Sen and his CPP gang don't want to change (or change only in their way) or leave their positions.
Right now, we and the foreigners are just putting bandage over a bad cancer wound. It's not going to cure except spreading bigger and bigger until the hold body die.

For Cambodia to be a free democracy state, the power of the people must rise and fight for it. Otherwise, the old wound will swallow up the bandage.

remember in the study western democracy which started in greece. they say sometimes, the mass don't necessarily know the rule of law way, so this when the few ruled, on the other hand, sometimes too the few too need the mass to steer them in the right direction, etc... so, i think it all depends on the circumstance, we can't say for sure that something is set in stone anymore. it all depends on the stituation at hand, i think.
My fellows Cambodians, next time, you go on holidays in Cambodia, make sure to travel Cambodia wide, not just stay at karaokes and night clubs in Phnom Penh.
Open your eyes widely to see the suffering of our compatriots and think what you can do for your country and your compatriots.
Education is vital for us all, especilally, Cambodians. Our enemies outsmart us times and again with their tricks.
We should all wake up by now.

Many people who have said Srok Khmer is developed are very ignorance and are having their intelligence handicapped. They must realized that before when srok khmer was not developed, every single Khmer has their small land, small house to live with their families' members. But now after developed, all khmers are loosing their lands, their small house and now have to flee their country to Thailand for works to feed their family. A small example which is easy to understand. If I am a village chef and before my village was developed, all Cambodian have their small house around me. Now I developed my village by selling out all lands around my village. Now my village is full of Korea and Vietnamese. I have a lot of moneys to put in the bank and employed army to protect myself and all my new villagers. All Cambodian have disappeared because no house, no land and no moneys to live. THAT IS WHAT HAPPEN TO THIS DEVELOPMENT.

Koh Tral Island must not be forgotten

Why do Koh Tral Island, known in Vietnam as Phu Quoc, a sea and land area covering proximately over 30,000 km2 [Note: the actual land size of Koh Tral itself is 574 square kilometres (222 sq miles)] have been lost to Vietnam by whose treaty? Why don’t Cambodia government be transparent and explain to Cambodia army at front line and the whole nation about this? Why don't they include this into education system? Why?
Cambodian armies are fighting at front line for 4.6 km2 on the Thai border and what's about over 30,000km2 of Cambodia to Vietnam. Nobody dare to talk about it! Why? Cambodian armies you are decide the fate of your nation, Cambodian army as well as Cambodian people must rethink about this again and again. Is it fair?
Koh Tral Island, the sea and land area of over 30,000 square kilometres have been lost to Vietnam by the 1979 to 1985 treaties. The Cambodian army at front line as well as all Cambodian people must rethink again about these issues. Are Cambodian army fighting to protect the Cambodia Nation or protecting a very small group that own big lands, big properties or only protecting a small group but disguising as protecting the Khmer nation?
The Cambodian army at front lines suffer under rain, wind, bullets, bombs, lack of foods, lack of nutrition and their families have no health care assistance, no securities after they died but a very small group eat well, sleep well, sleep in first class hotel with air conditioning system with message from young girls, have first class medical care from oversea medical treatments, they are billionaires, millionaires who sell out the country to be rich and make the Cambodian people suffer everyday.
Who signed the treaty 1979-1985 that resulted in the loss over 30,000 km2 of Cambodia??? Why they are not being transparent and brave enough to inform all Cambodians and Cambodian army at front line about these issues? Why don't they include Koh Tral (Koh Tral size is bigger than the whole Phom Phen and bigger than Singapore [Note: Singapore's present land size is 704 km2 (271.8 sq mi)]) with heap of great natural resources, in the Cambodian education system?
Look at Hun Sen's families, relatives and friends- they are billionaires, millionaires. Where did they get the money from when we all just got out of war with empty hands [in 1979]? Hun Sen always say in his speeches that Cambodia had just risen up from the ashes of war, just got up from Year Zero with empty hands and how come they are billionaires, millionaires but 90% of innocent Cambodian people are so poor and struggling with their livelihood every day?
