Over 80,000 Cambodians Registered for Permits to Work in Thailand

More than 80,000 Cambodians were already registered for work in Thailand as the deadline just passed, a government official said Friday.

Hou Vuthy, deputy director general of Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training said that by July 14, more than 80,000 Cambodians were registered with Thailand's authorities to legally work there.

He said the Thai side had set a deadline on July 14 for those, not only for Cambodians, who work illegally in Thailand to register for work permit.

He said through legal paperwork, those Cambodian workers will no longer face deportation or charges with illegal entry.

Even though the deadline has passed, the Cambodian authorities will try their best to help those who are not yet registered so that they will be legally permitted.

Thailand is economically richer than its neighbors and needs more workers, thus providing many opportunities to those from neighboring nations to work in the country with hope for more pay.

Early this month, Thai authorities said that 454,449 workers from Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar might face deportation if they fail to register by July 14.

Some say that at least 10,000 Cambodian workers fail to register for legal permit to date, but Hou Vuthy said no one knows for sure how many Cambodians are actually working there, especially, the illegal ones.

He said some Cambodians enter Thailand for one or two days' work, while others might stay up to a week, a month or a year, making the authorities hard to figure out the actual number.

Thai authorities have frequently deported hundreds of illegal Cambodian workers through Poi Pet International border gate between Cambodia's Banteay Meanchey Province and Thailand's Sakaew Province.

In addition to working in Thailand, many Cambodian workers also work in Malaysia and South Korea.

Cambodia government need to create more jobs for it people. To maintain it economy, culture value, dignity, and inspirational for all Khmers. Not recruits it people to work in foreigners countries. Look at the U.S. For an example. Back in the 1980's and the early 1990's the U.S encourage it people and companies to opens factories base in China. Many Americans companies did moves to China and opens factories there. Look at U.S economy today, Americans economy is slow. Now the Americans encourage their products to be made in U.S.A. It is a must for Cambodia creates jobs for it people. Period.

Thank you Thailand for allowing Cambodian workers to work in your country.

Also thank you for looking after their working conditions.

When the Cambodian election time arrives, please make sure that they can vote in the election supervised by the United Nations Representatives in Thailand. And this approach must also be applied to all countries that host Cambodian workers.

Thank you all concerned.

Cambodia should have done the same way to the illegal Viet immigrants to keep the Khmer from looking for work in Thailand.
But because the CPP are Viet slaves, the Viet are taking away the Khmer jobs, and Cambodia has turned in a banana kingdom.

really!
ok!
you know!
etc!

Khmer gov't needs to be smarter by now...in Aust, we want to increase more people to help in re-building, expanding in its infrasture, farm the land up and more. At the moment, there are alot of works need to be done, so why sending our people/workers to work for other nation/country. this is wrong, we are allowing the rich taking advantage of the poor or what?. One person that went away is too many, it is like one death is too many. Imagine he/she is your parents, brother, sister or related relative, has to separate from our herd (group).

It is very sad when our gov't has a shallow minded way of life. We need to divide our people into group and be active on certain job that needs to be done, e.g. each group of farmer, cow, duck, chicken..gourp of builders focusing on pre-building materials an assemble them all up in the most effective way, goup of roads, hospital etc...if not we will be disorganised and slow in community management etc.. if khmer don't love khmer, no one in the world will...alot in khmer oversea can not get a job easily unless they have connection or able to open thier own business or otherwise, there will be no way they could get a job as it is full of racism and prejudice...

so we have to find ways to protect our people from being harm and abused by other nation etc..
