You can call me naive if you want, but I think we the dark skin Khmer should not blame the media or society for our failure. Those light skin people they are sucessful because of who they are not because of their skin color. They work hard for their sucess. The bottom line is that if I want people to look up to me I have to make people see deeper than the surface color of my skin. Sucess is something to be earned not ask for; therefore, if you want people to respect you, be sucessful don't ask for it. By the way, I am a dark skin Khmer and very damn proud of it.

Dear: 5:33 Am and 6:02 AM, you both are really naived. How can dark skinned Khmers be successful if the light skinned chinese control all the mean of production and wealth. We don't have a fare share in life. It takes money to make money as the old saying goes. The rich Chinese control all the capital in Cambodia. I understand that economic control from the Sino-Khmer, especially the recent newcomers, have been detrimental to the native population.
But, as Khmer, we should understand that our identity is diverse and steer away from fixating on a specific color, belief, or customs.
Khmer is a matter of the heart, not something you can sign on the skin. There are Chinese-Khmer, who have been Khmer for generations, and for all matter of speaking, they are Khmer in heart and soul, patriotic, whether they are dark or not.
There may also be Youn-Khmer/Vietnamese-Khmer who are mixed Khmer and have adopted the Khmer culture and nation allegiance, for all matters of speaking, they are Khmer.
So to say that someone who is "white" automatically makes them a "fake" Khmer is not only false, but a negative attitude to hold because it discriminates against people in our nation.
From the paternal side, myself personally, they are some really white people. From the maternal side, my family are mostly dark-skinned people, yet none of us denied that we are Khmer and both families proclaimed Khmerness 100 percent!
I asked them how they explained the difference in their skinned color, all they said was, "it was their puch", "Puch" which translates to "clan", so rather than trying to figure out what race each family is from and attribute these trivial things such as skin color to external sources, we choose to accept the idea of internal diversity and differences in clan of different families.
After all, to the root of it, Khmer identity is made up of clans, and tribes, of many different people in the beginning.
EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE NOTE AND LEARN FROM KEO CHAM........MYSELF INCLUDED!

stupid to make a great story about the dark and bright skin of our Khmer people.
For someone of us live long time in the caucasian societies, Europe, America and Australian love the dark skin. Except some, who live isolate from the society,they might did not like.
Contrary for most of our brothers and sisters in Cambodia sure, they love to have a bright skin.
Nothing wrong with dark or bright skin of our Khmer people.
Just remember, in Asia white skinned are more popular.

Thai is divided in two classes:
rich and poor,white and dark skin.
Vietnamese mixed,Chinese mixed,
Khmer mixed are rich and famous.
They are as same as in Cambodia.
Khmer in Thailand in Trat(Khmer called Trach,a kind of tree)in
Chantabury,West of Bangkok or surrounding Bangkok;North(not many Khmer living there).
But Northeast there are 3,000,000
