“The use of the skills acquired by graduate engineers in the labor market is still limited.”
A growing group of young engineers say they are ready for the government to make use of their skills but are facing limited job prospects.
“The use of the skills acquired by graduate engineers in the labor market is still limited,” said Chann Rithy, vice president of Techno Charity, a group of engineers, as a guest Monday on “Hello VOA.”
Techno Charity has around 50 members who are graduates of the Institute of Technology of Cambodia. They volunteer to build wells and provide study materials to children in rural areas.
“The government has to consider that engineers need to employ the skills they’ve learned at school,” Chann Rithy said. “So they need the right workplaces to use them properly.”
Cambodia currently has about 20,000 engineers, he said, trained in areas like agricultural hydrology, irrigation, electronics and information technology. However, many of them are unable to apply their studies to work after graduation because there is nowhere for them to go.
“If the government has a policy to create more jobs by encouraging more investment and entrepreneurship, then more engineers must be needed to exploit their skills,” he said.
The heyday for Cambodian engineers was in the 1960s, when engineers helped in the production of export products like machinery, rubber and glass, he said.
Channy Rithy said Cambodia must now learn to produce more goods, especially for the local market.
“The government has to consider what to import and what not to,” he said, “so that we can increase our local production with the skill of engineers.”

A con man Pang Sokhoeun as well as KI-Media like to insult to the government officers who have affairs, but himself does even worse than other people. What a shame!
Although, my girlfriend had ran way from me and has a new boyfriend, it doesn't bother me much because I will use my con skills to get a daughter of Mr. Meng Ly as my new girlfriend.

Any positions are not for you, dogs, but for CPP's son and daughter. CPP's son and daughter no need to go to school just like you dogs, they are having jobs since they were born. CPP's can lean from CPP's consultants, and they are better than you because CPP's have an actual training on hand. You are waste, and you have to create jobs yourselves or die down under CPP's bottom.

more than 20,000 engineers have no job. I do hope maybe they have low qualitiy too. That is only emgineers branch but what about the other branch? Whe is the win-win-strategy?
You can be entrepreneurs by creating your own enterprises. Here in the West, young graduates start up theirs businesses everyday and all very successful. Bill Gate of Microsoft or the CEO of Apples Corp. started up their business without diplomas and everyone know how they are successful. There no easy way for anyone. You need to use your skills and your head altogether. Please do not wait for the government. Help your selves first... You’ll get rich a lot faster than you think by being your own bosses!

You should know the numerous of you are awarded as engineer ,so Don`t wait for the jobs !But you have to make job from your knowledge .
Those engineers can not create job for themselft, Why:
1) Most of industry products were impoerted (turn your eye to the national bilance sheet import export!)
2) Most of specialists come from oversea? ( the question whether they create job for those or not?)

This is the consequence caused by
corruption in the whole country
especially in the education area.

Some of them didn't want to study while at school. They cheated at the exams. They just want the diploma! What they know best was "doeur laeng"! Cambodia is a communist country no more. Only private companies can create jobs for the youth. Problems are that they only recruit those with real skills and knowledgeable. Not incompetent ones. Those who wait for somebody else creating jobs for them are actually incompetent people who are good for complaining. Those who are really competent create jobs themselves and what they don't have is time to make more money. "Ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country" and for yourself!
If no change of Cambodian government soon, we all at working age will end up like that, fishing to survive another day.

i think cambodia have to modernize and use modern machinaries, etc for farming, etc, ok! i'm sick and tired to see cambodia is still behind time, you know! wake up, people, learn from all over the world in technological advancement, developments in all fields and areas, ok! stop being isolated and stupid forever,ok! there are more to cambodia than you and i, ok! be smart and don't be stupid, ok!
