Kudos to Salen Si.It's an excellent idea to enlight Khmer language users on this topic.Khmer literacy has been the envy to the neighbouring nations that most have adapted and wished Khmer language/literary as their own i.e Siam and Lao.

I think most people in Cambodia from the Phnom Penh city area are speaking "the pailam style" or the immitation of the foreigners such as the Chinese or the Vietnamese. The Chinese learning to speak Khmer are known to speak Khmer with the "pailam style" or the heavy accent stress. For example, the "krob sondaek" (bean seed) is pronounced as "Krob baek" (hand grenade). Another is the word "Khmer" and is pronounced as "Keemeer". Another one is the word "Khnjom" (I) is pronounced as "Khearm", etc. The people from the Phnom Penh area think or believe that it is cool or something to swallow up the r causing them to say "srey" (woman/girl) as "s'h'ey" or "trey" (fish) as "t'h'ey"...the list goes on...
