“I’ve learned a lot from my work that can put my knowledge from the UK into practice. I’ve also learned how to communicate with different nations and cultures.”
Hean Polyne, who completed her master’s in development studies in the UK and was recently accepted to Oxford, has spent her summer in Nairobi, Kenya.

She is working as an intern for the Stara Rescue Center and School in Kibera, one of the world’s largest slums. As one of the few Cambodians working in Africa, she told VOA Khmer recently she has many ideas to help her organization.

She said she hopes her work will improve awareness for the organization, to help people internationally understand the work of Stara, providing information that could help it find funding. She has been busy collecting data to post on the website, writing funding proposals and participating in student home visits.

“I’ve learned a lot from my work that can put my knowledge from the UK into practice,” she said. “I’ve also learned how to communicate with different nations and cultures. These experiences can be implemented in other areas in Cambodia as well.”

“Countries have borders,” she said. “But humanitarianism has no borders.”

I feel so sorry to see some Cambodians who are still psychologically wounded from parents to children. They are always synical about everything. It is not their fault. It is a result of the war and the Khmer Rouge regime.

One of the Charet Khmer or Khmer Characteristics mentioned in the book entitled "Charet Khmer written by Mr. Bun Chanmol around 1973 is jealousy towards other successful Cambodians.

He noticed throughout his career that Khmers are not jealous that much or at all if other races such as Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese or American are successful in whatever they do, but they (the Khmers) become fiercely jealous when it turns out that a successful individual is a Cambodian.

Congratulating and encouraging our people to move forward when they are successful is the first step in helping build Cambodia and a respectable act required of a proud Cambodian.

Successfulness in one person should be a reminder to another person that he or she can achieve the same if he or she try his or her best.

Jealousy will make you a prisoner of ignorance and you will never see the light of knowledge.

People have knowledge.
History writers wrote just to please
leaders in their times.Please don't
trust them 100%.
All human beings and animals have
jealousies.Yes,people have different characters, not just Khmer people.

The countries have boundaries or
borders,but people have no borders.
If they are nice to her,she should
