Who is Mr. Son Chhay? That's is an excellent question and many would tell you that the answer depends on your political view.
For me, Mr. Son Chhay is an unfit contender for Mr. Rainsy's job. Without a doubt, he has done some commendable works for Srok Khmer and Khmer people. However, with his unwise and critical stance or view of China-Tibet issue, he has done more harm than good to SRP party.
So the real question is not who Mr. Son Chhay is, but what he represents? When it comes to building key international support which is crucial for the party to move to the nerxt level, can SRP afford to have a senior member in its rank behaved irresponsibly as Mr. Son Chhay?
If he has not hurt and harmed the innocent defenseless Khmer people he's OK.

Very simple knowledge to remember; If you are making with good friend, you are learning their good things and if you making with drinkers, you would be a drinker one day. And if you are making with a strong Nation, they support you. If you are making with unrepresented people, one day, you will loose your land too. I agree with social justice but we must care about ourselves first. Each Cambodian must think at present " CAMBODIAN FIRST " if you want Cambodian to survive. It is now not about Cambodia at all. Cambodian will be disappeared before Cambodia if you are making mistake.

Save your sinking ship first before leaving it to save another one that has already sunk; otherwise, by the time you swim back to your ship, it has sunk so badly that rescue won't be possible.

Anet Khmer, I love your motto. "In politic be practical and in religion be kind". I like Mr Sam Ransy and Mr Son Chhay. But I could join this party because of their confused international policy.
You need to have a strong and clear foreign policy. Between China and USA, you need to be neutral and not be foul to work for one and interference to another one. We must be clear that we need to survive and let us alone and support us to survive. we are a baby. we need to foods to eat and moneys to grow our economy and job for our citizen and our big brothers to care us against our bad neighbors. I cannot see SRP will grow for their policy.

You cannot see anything because you did not follow the past geopolitics that a small poor and weak Cambodia was never allowed to choose neutrality. You must choose one to either you may be survived or you die.
A proclamation of Cambodian neutrality would not make any difference, because Cambodia is not Israel, she will be raped by the superpower nations should war break out.
To LIVE or to DIE among us, we have no other alternative choice, we must choose the path that we are given.
I support the US and while Hun Sen is following King Sihanouk, Rainsy should support the US.

If that is the case, then we are back at square one ready to kill each other again like in the 70s.
The only problem is that the US has no interests in war in SE Asia anymore so SRP's chance to get power and remain in it with US help is very slim.
By the way, Sihanouk's foreign policy of playing east against west then maintaining neutrality could have worked if the Khmers leaders of various tendencies were not so divided and had chosen to support it for Cambodia's sake.
His policy kept changing because he was trying to balance and fought the many forces of the day since there were Khmers favoring US, those favoring communism of Chinese model, those favoring the Russian and Vietnamese models and on top of all of that division, there was also Mr. Son Ngoc Thanh, the Khmer Serei leader as well who was supposed to be American ally and could not even work with Gen. Lon Nol.
Division and dysunity are the causes of the present-day suffering and now we begin it again.

Nobody cares about Cambodia anymore since its culture, beauty and country is unknown to the rest of the world. Thailand has absorbed all of Khmer culture and presented it at Miss.Universe and does a good job at promoting Thai culture, country and beauty. While us lame Khmer's just sit on our lazy ass and rot and soon become extinct and no one would care if Thai and viet invaded all of Cambodia and they would be like Cambodia who? Either Cambodia joins Miss.Universe and be known or become extinct forever. Our Khmer ancestors must be ashamed and embarrassed at us lame Khmer's descendent by not doing a damn thing to promote our Khmer culture and evolve it. No wonder Thai culture, Thai food and anything Thai is popular due to Khmer's being so lame at everything!!!

No we are not back @ square ONE. I emphasized that Rainsy is not in power like Lon Nol, he is only an opposition. I understood very well based on recent news of Tibet that the US has no intention or desire to have war game in SEA like in Libya, but the US still continue to play Cold war in SEA.
I also very understood your great concern about our disunity like in the past. But the situation today Rainsy cannot submit himself to the Vietnamese who persecute him for he just defends his homeland. Rainsy is not Khmer Serei army he is a peaceful opposition leader only. If you think Rainsy should be taken to jail in Hanoi for the sake of unity, then I OPPOSE.

If Yuon jail Rainsy in Hanoi his chance of survival is slim. Open the history see our great nationalist King named Chau Ponhea Khan who joined with Islam on hoping to kick Yuon Ngoc Van out of Cambodia, but then he faced a civil war caused by Yuon Ngoc Van, later he captured by Yuon to Hue (Hanoi). Yuon claimed they sent him back home, but he was forced into a hard labor and poisoned before he even set-foot in his beloved country.

Above is not the point we are discussing here. We are discussing about our big brother China.
I share similar view of a number of commenters here that the SRP has made a big mistake by antagonizing China.
Supporting a Tibet cause does not mean anything much to the US.
Thailand, a permanent US ally plays smart politics even though it is a Buddhist country by remaining silent on the Tibet issue rather than upsetting China.
The SRP should concentrate on how to get back on its feet first rather than trying to show off its compassion for a cause that is too risky to consider.
I guess we have to agree to disagree on our debate.

Yes "Thailand" is silent about Tibet, but the issue here is about Cambodia and Viets,the Viets who are roaming all over the place in Cambodia and Hun Sen is under their supervision.
I see that Rainsy has nothing to lose for supporting US as he has always been. China has never paid attentions to the powerless like Rainsy before and why now?

China will continue to help Mr. Hun Sen to be always in power and make sure that Mr. Sam Rainsy will never have a chance since China and Mr. Hun Sen have worked very well together.
Sam Rainsy and his SRP have just told China that when they are in power, a new game is in place.
If I were to be a Chinese leader with full power, I would, for sure, help PM Hun Sen with everything I can to ensure the mutual benefits remain in place by making sure that the SRP will never have a chance to govern in Cambodia.
Now, you have two powerful foreign powers who live close by wanting to ensure that your chance of governing is as much close to zero as possible.

You are in emotional moods. China or US both are superpower nations, they play their games by using small people/nations to do their dirty jobs if they see fit their agenda.
Your ideas cannot be a Chinese leader or any nation's leader, because you are not flexible according to the circumstances.
Even if today China has emerged as the next global superpower, still cannot beat the US, the US is still the world's leading superpower in term of military and its weapons.
If you think China cares for Hun Sen or for Rainsy of anyone, you are in a delusional state. The same apply to the US.
The US and China will not directly fight with each other, I bet they talk on the phone while the small nations fight just like in old day during Vietnam War, Kissinger and Chu En Lai were chating, laughing on the phone and Kissinger told Chu to take South Vietnam, but then Ho Chi Minh got it before China by the helps of Soviet Unions.
I see nothing wrong for Rainsy to be with the US as he has always been.

China just watches and prospers, playing a litte game here and a little there.
The US with its arrogant attitudes ran like a lightning out of Saigon in April 1975 with broken spirit and complete humiliation.

I knew him. He was an orphan Khmer boy from Cambodia raising by the White American religious family. He is young and very polite. His name is David. I like him too and very much.
Why China has no interest with Mr Sam Ransy? you can ask Mr Sam Ransy for that why? he supported Mr Chen Suibian. Chinese embassy in Phnom Penh has warned Mr Sam ransy already around 1995. Now China has treated SRP as nothing unless this party re-instate their clear foreign policy about China. You are creating problem for yourself. one China with taiwan and China and Tibet. You must go back to Chinese history to find out who has created the modern China? First one was Mongol and secondly Manchury. The Han has never invaded any country. Therefore China was established since 1271 by Mongolian with Tibetian supporting that authority.
China matters a lot in Cambodia's politics. I don't think any political parties can succeed without China's backing.
SRP should keep a communicationline open with Beijing to clarify any possible misunderstanding or misinterpretation etc. on Party policy issues etc...

One of KI-Media member who has his name in Facebook as Khmer Sovannaphumi but his real name is Pang Sokhoeun, former political asylum and now living in Sweden. He always copies news from here to post in his facebook profile to promote himself, but right now, he tries to remove and blocked anyone who dares to reveal his con activity particular he tries to hide what he has cheated his wife (Sreypov Chea) by having a girlfriend (Sokunthear Sam) behind his wife back. Now, his girlfriend had run way from him after she knew his cheating.
A con man Pang Sokhoeun as well as KI-Media like to insult to the government officers who have affairs, but himself does even worse than other people. What a shame!
When one person had posted in KI-Media and accused that a con man Pang Sokhoeun is a brother of Som Ek (former Chief of Tiger's head sign guerilla, who was arrested and put in prison by Cambodian government) during that time, a cheater Pang Sokhoeun came to deny in his blogs immediately and had pointed the blame to Mr. Sourn Serey Rotha, but this time, he has bury his head in the sand because he cannot deny the truth that he has cheated his wife. Right now, all he can do is removed and blocked anyone who dared to reveal his cheating.
