KHMERICAN WEBSITE FOSTERS ENGAGEMENT AND CENTRALIZE RESOURCES
FOR COMMUNITY

NEW YORK, NY — Phatry Derek Pan and Sophath Oun have officially launched a web portal for Khmer America, after debuting a well-received preview just over a month ago. Version 1.0 at www.khmerican.com will provide original news and photographs by a nationwide network of citizen journalists. Through collections of relevant information and resources, the website will also serve as a much-needed collaborative hub for action on various issues of interest to the community.
In the month after it was announced, the Khmerican preview website and blog together received nearly 6,000 unique visitors and more than 13,000 page views from 41 countries, with 75% from the United States, followed by Cambodia. The preview was a publicity initiative that included members of the community endorsing the website’s key features: articles, photo essays, calendar of events and announcements. The buzz generated over 250 early access subscribers and received press attention from Radio Free Asia and The Faster Times.
Pan, co-founder and CEO, expressed part of the reasoning behind the new venture in one of the recent interviews. “We believe that Khmerican can strengthen communities on a local and national level. If I am trying to get my peers and younger friends to be more conscious of what is going on in their community, I think connecting them with a portal illustrating the progress of Khmer America would foster that type of engagement.”
In addition to content, various databases will facilitate finding notable entities and resources — for example, a master list of Khmer student organizations and their contact information. Oun, co-founder and webmaster, also emphasized the desire to create something issue-oriented, not a “Cambodian Facebook” but “an army of well-informed, proactive netizens passionate about community building.”
The nascent Khmerican contributor team presently includes 10 staff members from seven states between California and Massachusetts and is open to expanding its base of reporters and creative professionals.

I don't want to be named as 'Khmerican or Khmer American', because I don't like Amerikang.
khmerican should engage young generation of khmer and foster unity and promote khmer education among its members, the khmer community, etc... it should non-political and non-bias, etc... it should promote and advocate khmer education and education among khmer people and so on. and it should be open to anyone who is interested in learning about cambodia, khmer language, khmer organizations, khmer education, etc, etc...
it should also encourage everyone and its members to learn about the world and integrate that into khmer education! yes, the world is big, cambodia and khmer people should learn about the world as well as khmer education, etc...
It should post more Khmer porn for us to enjoy

the concept of manpower should be enacted in khmerican's philosophy regardless of one's national origin, etc.

If you took a look at the real definition of "Khmerican," it's not strictly based on one's ethnic background or nationality. Here's what it says in the ABOUT section of the site: "KHMERICAN: noun; a person or organization that strive to improve the quality and well-being of Khmer America."
People here who are complaining abt what it should do, or what it should say, etc; y'all need to shut up & start doing some REAL action then instead of sitting behind a damn computer screen & complaining & mouthing off abt how Khmer Americans are bad or whatever the fuck you're saying. Shut up & do something yourself & make those changes!!! So ignorant you guys are. You're better at talking shit than doing something good in your lives, huh? Bastards...

There are 3 type of people;
-one group may like you and will flatter you.
-one group will not like what you do or want to add some inadequately things for you; and
-one group who careless about what you do.
If you cannot take a heat from the public who criticize you, then you should not post anything in the public forums.
And do not or ever UNDER ESTIMATE these critics they they are nothing but yourself. You are DEAD Wrong.
Khmerican and KI are calling themselves journalists by copying from others (news sources). You're stealing news from other news sources, yet call yourselves journalists.
In this day and age, anyone can copy and paste. However, the real reporter (s) must spend a significant length of time to write and reports the news. Again, not stealing.
You need real writers and reporters alike to bring the most up-to-date news--not pseudo-journalists.

i like the term "khmerican" to mean khmer/american. and this name resonates with those of us who like everything american and khmer. also, it means we like freedom the american way and would like to integrate and teach and educate the good american way into khmer people and cambodia. may god bless khmerican.
