PHNOM PENH, Sept 23 (Bernama) -- Senior officials of Thailand and Cambodia have resumed talks on an oil and gas exploitation project in the Overlapping Claims Area (OCA) in the Thailand Gulf, which has been stalled since 2001, reports Vietnam News Agency.
A Cambodian news source said Thai Minister of Energy Pichai Naripthaphan had an unofficial discussion with Secretary of State of the Cambodian Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, Ith Prang, on the project on the sidelines of the 29 th Energy Ministers Meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in Brunei.
At the meeting, Pichai affirmed the two countries will restart cooperative ties in the project after ten years of interruption.
He said the two countries' foreign ministers will discuss details of the project, adding that this is a public discussion and is not related to border issues between Thailand and Cambodia.
The OCA is a 27,000 sq. km offshore area in the Thailand Gulf estimated to contain significant reserves of natural gas.

OVERLAPPING CLAIMS AREA???
Nobody have heard the word " Over-
lapping Area " until Mr.Hun Sen ca-me to power. The Khmer Border Com-
mittee president Mr. Sean Peng Se
declared the so called " Overlap-ping Claims Area " is in Cambodian
sea according to 1904 and 1907 Franco-Siamese treaties. So joint
exploitation of that area means
Cambodia is giving up 50% of Khmer
national asset in favor of Siameses. So painfull for us Khmers
isn't it???
Is Mr. Peng Se right? Or is Mr. Hun
Sen wrong? Only a direct debate will tell who is a nationalist and who is a traitor.
SI ENG KRUY.
