Leaders in other parts of the world, particularly in Africa, who have also displayed the tendency to think themselves indispensable, and the desire to hold on to power, must also learn a singular lesson: The people’s will must ultimately prevail.
The killing of ousted Libyan Muammar Gaddafi should mark the end of the last pockets of resistance to the people’s revolt that toppled the 42-year old regime.
Now the National Transitional Council must consolidate its position, restore law and order, and the semblance of an effective administration across the entire country that has suffered the ravages of the bloody revolt for much of this year.
But the new leadership must realise that wiping out the Gaddafi regime must not merely be about replacing one dictatorship with another.
The Libyan people revolted because they were tired of a megalomaniac one-man rule. They have aspirations to rule of law, democracy and respect for human rights, as do other peoples across the region, who have voted on the streets against autocracy and totalitarianism.
Strongmen in Tunisia and Egypt have been toppled by the popular revolts dubbed the Arab Spring. Others in Syria, Yemen, Bahrain and many other countries in North Africa and the Middle East continue to hold out through either brutal repression or grudging acceptance of cosmetic reforms.
Old assumptions that the Arab people have no aspirations to democracy have been shattered by the Arab Spring, and developments in Libya will surely motivate rebellions against feudal or military dictatorships elsewhere in the region.
Leaders in other parts of the world, particularly in Africa, who have also displayed the tendency to think themselves indispensable, and the desire to hold on to power, must also learn a singular lesson: The people’s will must ultimately prevail.
But the yearning for freedom must not be hijacked or betrayed in Libya or anywhere else. In Tunisia and Egypt, the long-serving dictators were toppled in palace coups by their own confidantes when it became apparent that the people’s revolts would not be stopped.
No to retribution
The transitional regimes that took power must ultimately work towards peaceful transitions to democracy.
The same applies to Libya where beyond asserting its authority, the National Transitional Council also has the task of establishing its own legitimacy in countering perceptions that it is nothing but a lackey of the western Nato military alliance that played a critical role in defeating Gaddafi’s military.
This also must not be the time for retribution. Accounts of the manner in which Gaddafi was killed after capture signal an inauspicious start for a new leadership that must rise above savage bloodlust.
The new leadership must demonstrate speedily that it desires to bring the country to a fresh start in a new dispensation that has room for all.
This administration would have the limited mandate of restoring security, and must be committed to giving way to a democratically-elected government, while ensuring there is no vacuum that might be exploited by anti-democratic extremists.
The same principle applies to the rest of the Arab world where dictatorships have been toppled. It remains important, however, that the transition to democracy be speedy, lest the interim regimes themselves test the peoples’ patience.

DEch Hun SEn looks so healthy and wealthy. If Decho gives 100 millions dollars to Sam Rainsy, will Sam Rainsy join our decho Hun SEn and stop border our decho ?
Decho Hun Sen is happy like Gaddafi.
Why does not anyone ( democratic politicians) say anything about the long reign of the king of thaialande Bhumibol Adulyadej who is in power more than 60 years and to save its throne , has ignored several military coup that led the overthrow several governments democratically elected by the thai people.
The King of Thailand is not democratically elected by the people.
Why no democratic debate here?
There are autocrats who can stay long time in power and autocrats who do not remain long time in power?
What explains this discrimination in terms of democracy?

BEcause that is Thailand problem and Cambodia has enough problems on to face so generally speck Cambodian people must focus on Cambodia issues such as Cambodia lands, Sea area, Islands, oil, democracy, and The 1991 Paris Peace Agreement to save Cambodia and Cambodian from swallow by Vietnam. If Vietnam respect The 1991 Paris Peace Agreement Thailand will 101% agree too.
So Cambodian people must focus strongly on The 1991 Paris Pece Agreement that reconized by UN and the world including Vietnam and Thailand too.
Don't worry about Thai king just simply worry about the 1991 Paris Pece Agreement to save Cambodia now!
Thanks you
Why the Thai military who are followers of coups do not form a new coup d'etat today ? are they fear the contagion of Arab sprin
that overthrew autocrats in power for long time and can affect the situation of the King of Thailand who is also an very old and very sick autocrat ?Bhumibol Adulyadej is afraid and asked Thai military do not commit a new coup d'etat against the red shirts? New coup that may cause the fall of the Thai monarchy?

You can go to Thai furum or Thai blog to disscuss your issue but here for Cambodia issues only. You are out of topic and talk like crazt people in the wrong place.
Please feel free to talk about thai issues at Thai site but not here.
There is an election in Cambodia !!
Cambodian decide who will win the election.
Instead of talking about what SRP didn't do to win the election, SRP choose to talk about what HunSen has done to the country.
Do you know the number of seats that SRP hold from the begining of the SRP creation?????
SRP seats are declining year after year !!! Sam Rainsy knows he is a failure leader so he starts to talk about the government failure to solve Cambodian problem instead.
Do you think a smart leader would spend more time and energy to layout the plant to win the next election by now ??????
No, not for Sam Rainsy because he knows that nobody in the party dare to vote him out from the president post !!!!!
If you dare to open your mouth, you will be kicked out from the party.
In the real world, he would have been fired a long time ago !!!!
In the US, this kind of unproductive leader will not last more than two years !!!!
For all the complain that he has on being too long in Gov. position (PM seat), you still don't know if he support term limit or not !!!
Even his supporters has no clue on what he stands on the issue.
Ah khwak Hun Sen, when you have power in your hands, you ten to smile good but when your power gone a way your smiling will be crying instead and your life also cut short like Gaddafi. This is real not fake, there are a thousand ways to die, but for you there only two ways to die, number one you will be died by your own people and number two you will died by Viet...people OK.
Hun Sen Smile, Gadhafi smile.
Both sit on a fancy chair.
Gadhafi is dead. Hun Sen will
follow Gadhafi.
5:58! YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKER! THE KING IS NOT THE PRIMISTER NOR PRESIDENT!
CAN YOU STOP MAKE YOUR PARENTS SHAME?

YOU STUPID MOTHERFUCKER!
We talk about the autocracy and autocrate.
The rule of the current king of thailand is affected by the subject.
You can read son of a bitch and YOU STOP MAKE YOUR PARENTS SHAME!
Do you think the Prime Minister in Thailand can do something against the will of the king?
Bhumibol Adulyadej has reigned for over 60 years in Thailand, today, he accumulated a fortune nearly $ 35 billion, he is now very old and very ill, he would normally go and give its place to someone else if he is not autocratic.
A revolution in thailand that will overthrow the Thai monarchy for a republic is not a bad thing for the world and democracy.
What do you think?
The King of Thailand has become a billionaire by turning its kingdom into a paradise of prostitution over 50 years.
This King should be ashamed of its fortune.
STUPID MOTHERFUCKER, You have respect for him? I am ashamed for the Thai people.
CAN YOU STOP MAKE YOUR PARENTS SHAME?
