More than 100 students at Bos Khnor high school were sent to the Chamcar Leu health center on Monday 24 October 2011 after they became weak. Local doctors claimed that the students lack oxygen. The ministry of health ordered the doctors to cooperate with educational officials to investigate about this case.

Right after their salute of the flag at the Bos Khnor high school courtyard, located in Chmacar Leu district, Kampong Cham province, the students became weak one after another. On Monday afternoon, Heng Phalrith, the high school principal, claimed that more than 100 students – the majority of whom are female students – became weak and were sent for emergency care at the Chamcar Leu health center.

Heng Phalrith indicated that, after the salute of the flag, 3 students became weak and had a dizzy spell, then, other students also came down with the same symptom in their classrooms. He indicated that this symptom took place twice already within the past 2 to 3 weeks at his high school. However, in those instances, only 1 or 2 students were affected.

Local doctors indicated that the majority of the students who were sent to the health center were weak, pale looking and they lack oxygen. On Monday afternoon, their health condition improved after they received oxygen.

Mam Bun Heang, the minister of health, told RFI on Monday afternoon that he already received the report on the Chamcar Leu students’ health and he ordered health officials to investigate this case.

Nevertheless, the school principal said that he had not yet decided on closing the school pending the actual condition and the results of the medical investigation.

How was that possible?
Those students were not on location of high altitude where the oxygen is scarce.
