A long day of rescue of 47 women and girls from SKMM employment agency. Negotiation with agency's lawyer was successful - forced agreement cancelled and all personal documents returned to victims. The man speaking to me at the end is the "special adviser" to SKMM agency. He claims to work for the Ministry of Interior. His wife is co-owner of the agency. Why is he still walking around as a free man?
Three days of heavy media coverage of illegal detentions and raids of employment agencies has lead to the association of employment agencies to fully implement the suspension of maids to Malaysia. No more Cambodian women to be sent to Malaysia.
The agencies are moving to other sectors. It is still not the end of slavery unless the government is willing to give its full political commitment.
