BANGKOK, Oct 11 (Bernama) -- As Thailand faces a critical flood situation, both government and opposition politicians are working hand-in-hand to address the crisis, in a display of rare political spirit shown in this region.
Opposition leader Abhisit Vejjajiva, who was the former prime minister and some Democrat party leaders, visited the Don Mueang Airport here at 12.20pm, where the Flood Relief Command Centre is located.
At that time, his successor, Yingluck Shinawatra, had just finished chairing a weekly Cabinet meeting at the airport.
They greeted each other and both began discussing the flood problem.
During the discussion, Abhisit made various proposals, including calling on the government to turn the 70,000 square metre cargo area at the airport into an evacuation centre.
At the moment, that part of the airport serves as a flood relief collection and distribution centre, as well as command centre. Abhisit was accompanied by former finance minister Korn Chatikavanij and Democrat party spokesman Chavanond Intarakomalsut during the discussion.
Earlier, Abhisit visited the flood victims evacuation centre at Thammasat University's Rangsit campus.
The opposition party had also handed out flood relief supplies, as well as financial assistance to the flood victims, from time to time, during the crisis.
Even Yingluck's brother, Thaksin, expressed appreciation for the opposition's efforts to help provide food and essential items to flood victims.
This is a very good signal for the country. When we are facing a crisis, all political parties brush aside their political differences and work together to help the country," he said during a special interview with a Thai newspaper with a Dubai dateline, which was published Tuesday.
About 40 per cent of the country is still inundated, with the death toll reaching 269, as the floods hit the country in stages, since last July, before reaching the critical level recently.

Sorry, Hun Sen is to busy counting his money and properties. Sam Rainsy is still waiting on the court order under Hun Sen to be with his people.
ahbullshit is still full of shit, i like yingluck better!
Abhisit now seeks to shine shoes of Mrs.Yinluk to forgive his violent crimes that he committed while he was in power.
It's a tactic that will be failed.
Yeah dough head like her BROTHER'S killing machine in the so called drug war. Let's see 90 odd shot by men in black and over 2,000. Grab a brain for God's sake and learn to count, and try out spell check.
It is a big slap on the face Prime Minister Hun Sen who hates Abisit more than Yingluck does. And also a wake up call to Sam Rainsy...
Abhisit is a stupid arrogant son of bitch. He should be put to stand trial of killing Thai people.
Yingluck is kissing the military junta's ass. Now she too support the Lese Majesty Laws and so Sirikit the Radical extremist Queen and her whore son are on the show and powerful. Oh yeahh we will have a playboy King carrying aid disease and his Queen who naked with small breasts, big belly and her pussy wrapped with G string be sitting on the Thai throne. Oh yeahhh soon they will f..on the throne and his dog with a high rank will leak.
Educated people usually are humble, but the ignorant and uneducated people like Hun Sen and his dogs are arrogant.
Abhisit said in one of his interviews "New PM is qiite attractive...". Now he has tried to get closer to Yingluck, people think he wants to sleep with her.
