VIENTIANE (VIENTIANE TIMES/ANN) -- Laos and Cambodia reached an agreement on mutually beneficial labour cooperation in Vientiane on Wednesday.

Both sides agreed to continually enhance the commitment of the two ministries to friendly relations and solidarity, and implement the Agreed Minutes of the 11th Meeting of the Lao-Cambodian Joint Commission for Bilateral Cooperation, which were signed in Vientiane in January 2010.

The two ministers also agreed to continue implementing the agreed minutes on cooperation between the two ministries signed in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, in December 2010.

They agreed on methods of future cooperation, including exchange visits at the ministerial level every two years with hosting duties on a rotational basis to share experiences related to skills development, vocational training, employment, labour protection and social security.

Cooperation in 2012 will also involve exchange visits by technical staff, providing opportunities for skills development and vocational training centres to share working experiences.

Both sides agreed to propose to their respective governments that the two ministries be assigned to discuss the feasibility of and draft a memorandum of understanding or contract for labour cooperation between Laos and Cambodia.

Mr Vong's official working visit to Laos from November 1-6 is aimed at discussing labour cooperation with his Lao counterpart.

During bilateral talks in Vientiane yesterday, the two sides exchanged views on socio-economic development, and labour and social welfare tasks, such as skills development, technical vocational training, employment, labour protection and social security activities.

During his visit, Mr Vong will also pay a courtesy call on Prime Minister Thongsing Thammavong and visit the centre for skills development, Pakpasak Technical College and That Luang Stupa in Vientiane, as well as the Nam Ngum dam in Vientiane province.
