North Korea has plans to build a large cultural center outside the famed temples of Angkor Wat, Cambodian officials confirmed Tuesday.
The agreement was made public after a meeting between Council Minister Sok An and a former ambassador from Pyongyang, Ri In-sok, last week.
“It shows a good relationship between Cambodia and North Korea,” said Ek Tha, a spokesman for the Council of Ministers. “It will help improve increasing tourism in Cambodia.”
Plans call for a 70-meter-by-124-meter edifice not far from the entrance to the temples. During their meeting, Sok An told North Korean diplomats that experts from both countries were working on the plans.
There are no firm dates yet for the beginning of construction, but according to planning documents, North Korean officials have already met with the Apsara Authority, which regulates the ancient temples.
Ek Tha said construction could begin early next year. However, Bun Narith, director-general for the Apsara Authority, said the proposal was still under review.
The discussions over the planned cultural center underscore the strong ties Cambodia retains with North Korea. This is a part of Cambodia’s “neutrality policy” when it comes to the two Koreas, said Lao Monghay, an independent political analyst.
Currently, the two countries are working to boost cooperation in agriculture and other industries, following agreements signed in July.

Well... It is Cambodian neutrality policy that allowed Cambodia to make friends (not enemies) around the world!
As for other countries such Thailand where its thuggish army killed Cambodian civilians on daily basis and Cambodian neutrality need not to apply! And so go to Vietnam for oppressing million and millions of Khmer Krom people!

This high rise building can block view or damage to the landscape suround temple complex. This building can be used for observatory for north Korea.
Building near Angkor complex could not and should not higher than 15 or 20 meters. They can build high rise at 60 km away from the temple complex.

Your idea is excellent, but it might not work with Ah Sdach Chkuot Chrouk Sihanouk and Ah Chker Chkuot Hun Sen.
I support your idea 100%. We raised this question when Ah Sdach Chkuot Sihanouk allowed the crook people to build Hotel close to Angkor wat in the 60th,
Now, it seems like Ah Sdach Chkuot Sihanouk tries to make the same mistake.
When will Ah Sihanouk ngorp?

i always would like to see my country cambodia develops and become advance, etc... when i see other regional countries have their skyscrapers, good, reliable infrastructure, etc, i feel cambodia should have the same. let's encourage a can do attitude. i think cambodia ought to build lots of modern tall buildings e.g. skyscrapers in all the major cities like phnom penh, siem reap, battambang, sihanoukvill kompong cham, kompong chhnang, kompong thom, kampot, koh kong, etc, etc... i hate to see our country so lack behind other neighboring countries out there. for me, when i see cambodia have lots of skyscrapers, modern, reliable infrastructure, big bridges, etc, etc, i feel happy and thrill and have pride in khmer people and khmer country even more. so i hope cambodia will build more and really modernize our nation in all fields as well. god bless cambodia.
cambodia shouldn't lack behind those neighboring countries anymore, really! i don't care about politics, i just want cambodia to become affluent and developed and have everything in the world as well. i don't really like primitive society and i don't care for isolation and backwardness again. cambodia should reach for the best to help develop our country cambodia. god bless cambodia and all khmer people.
who's stopping you and others from great investments in cambodia? if you don't want to invest in cambodia because you are biased and hated cambodia, then, too bad, don't try to stop others with ability and willingness to invest in cambodia from doing so, ok! i told you, there are more to cambodia than you and i, really, and you thought i was kidding? cambodia favors business competitions in our country, you know. don't wait too long to invest in cambodia, really, or you will be left behind china, korea, australia, etc, you know. and don't whine later about that, ok! come invest in cambodia now, we are encouraging every country with the financial and expertise to do so before things get more expensive in cambodia. i admire those countries like china, korea, australia, etc that saw the great opportunity and did so. well, stop playing the waiting game for too long, ok. please do come invest in cambodia from america, korea, japan, europe, china, australia, etc... god bless cambodia always.

no political bias is allowed in cambodia. we welcome all great investments in infrastructure, skyscrapers, agriculture, industries, electronics, and other manufacturings and food processings, etc, etc...
