OAKLAND -- There won't be any pool playing or karaoke singalongs at an East Oakland social club in the near future after it was heavily damaged Wednesday morning in a fire that also destroyed a few pounds of packaged marijuana, officials said.
The fire erupted about 3:30 a.m. in a shed attached to the Khmer Snooker Karaoke lounge in the 2200 block of International Boulevard. The cause is still under investigation but it may have resulted from some electrical problems, officials said.
The fire spread underneath the lounge's metal roof and caused extensive damage to the roof and interior before 20 firefighters brought it under control about 3:50 a.m., Batallion Fire Chief Bruce Nielsen said.
He estimated damage at a minimum of $25,000 and said the lounge "would be out of business for awhile."
There were no injuries.
Authorities said at least two pounds of packaged marijuana were destroyed in the fire, but there was no sign of any illegal growing operation at the site.
Authorities said no one representing the business showed up at the scene while firefighters and police were there.

How do the authority know that there was marijuana since the fire burnt it up? I hope the place stay closed forever. We have enough rowdy Cambodians around in the US.
