Phnom Penh - Two dozen Cambodians staged a protest after a leading mobile phone company texted them they had won iPhones and then refused to hand over the prizes, citing a technical error, media reports said Wednesday.
Metfone, Cambodia's largest mobile phone company with more than 6 million subscribers, texted dozens of subscribers telling them they had won Apple's latest model, the iPhone 4S, but when the winners, who had each paid 30 cents to enter the contest, came to claim the phones, Metfone refused to honour the claims, The Phnom Penh Post newspaper said.
One winner, Oung Sopheak, said he would not leave until he received his prize.
'I celebrated with my friends last night,' the 30-year-old was quoted as saying. 'We drank a lot of beer, but now [Metfone] won't give us our phones.'
Metfone spokesman Tevy Lim blamed 'a serious system error,' and said the company was sorry.
She said Metfone had offered the winners 5 dollars in lieu of the iPhone, which retails in the United States for up to 849 dollars, a small fortune in impoverished Cambodia.

Ah Kwack,
Stop allowing your master Yuon to control everything Ah Stupid.
You even let them control communication.
Ah Lngi Lngeu!! It is time for you to quit. You make Cambodia disappear soon. You gave Koh Trol, even Khmer's soul Angkor temple to Yuon too.
Ah Chkuot!! Hopefully, the lightning strikes you soon.
This is called "SCAM". Error or not, a promise is a promise.
dishonest company like this the law will catch up with them sooner or later; khmer people will not let them get away so easily if they cheated and scammed khmer workers, customers, etc. that's a sure way to disqualify bad business real fast. once reputation is ruined, they will lose customers, i'm sure! in cambodia, words spreads quickly, you know!
cambodia will not welcome bad business that cheats and scams customers in our country, ok!
if they are too poor or too cheap to invest in cambodia, then don't come to my country to invest; we only invite people who have financial ability, you know!
lol hilarious! they really want that iphone
if they cheated the customers, imagine what else they cheated! i don't think it's so much the phone, it their scam that will lose customers eventually! if you cheat people in your business, or you will lose your customers, ok!
Works very well in Vietcong underground hideout too.
Should not let foreinger own communication company. Same thing there should not allow to have foreigner to own energy company. It is security. But, again, youn and Cambodia is the same country. Hen Samrin's birth place now is in Youn. Youn pretty much everything in Cambodia. This is the last generation of Cambodia.
KINGDOM OF WONDER WELCOME YOU!!!
