Opposition Sam Rainsy Party lawmaker Mu Sochua said she will file an application form to Phnom Penh Municipal Court today asking the court to tell the National Assembly to restore her parliamentary immunity.
Mu Sochua told the Post yesterday she had already paid all fines as ordered by the court in September 2010 after the court decided against her in her defamation case against Prime Minister Hun Sen.
“I would like to tell the Excellency prosecutor that the punishment enforced against me since September 2010 has been served through enforcement by forced docking of my salary in the parliament,” Mu Sochua’s filing to the court prosecutor reads.
The former Women’s Affairs Minister said the time had come for her immunity to be returned to her, after being stripped of the parliamentary entitlement for more than a year.
Prosecutors of Phnom Penh Municipal Court could not be reached for comment yesterday.
Cheam Yeap, senior lawmaker of the ruling Cambodian People’s Party said the National Assembly would have no difficulty restoring Mu Sochua’s parliamentary immunity as long as she followed correct procedure.

What is the point getting this useless immunity. It can be taken away for any stupid reason.

Dear Madam MP Mu Sochua,
It is my humble opinion that lodging a request to have you parlementary immunity restored can be wrongly viewed as a sign of weakness from your part.
Your parliamentary immunity was injustly revoked through a questionable proceeding. It is highly likely that the very same abuse will be repeated in the future. In all practicality, your parlimentary immunity isn't worth the paper on which it is printed. It can be revoked without proper justification at any time, so why bother to have it?
Let it be known to the World that you Madam MP will not blink to threat, intimidation and injustice.
