Senior Minister Sun Chanthol has lodged a criminal complaint with Phnom Penh Municipal Court against his father-in-law, his brother-in-law and wife, and his father-in-law’s stepdaughter for masterminding a plot to rape and murder his wife and nine-year-old daughter in 2010, government lawyers said yesterday.

The criminal complaint is the latest twist in the high-profile dispute amongst prominent businessman Okhna Khaou Chuly’s family.

“My client, Sun Chanthol, has directly submitted his criminal lawsuit against [his in-laws] to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court,” lawyer Pal Chandara told the Post by telephone yesterday. “He has sued them for masterminding the attempted murders and rapes of his wife and his nine-year-old-daughter in 2010.”

Pal Chandara said the complaint had been filed on December 16.

In 2011, Khaou Chuly’s second wife, Seng Chenda, was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the 2010 attempted murder of Khaou Chuly’s daughter from his first marriage, Lok Chumteav Sun Sotha. Sun
Sotha later married senior Minister Sun Chanthol.

During Seng Chenda’s appeal hearing in September last year, her personal aide, who was also sentenced to 18 years in prison for her part in the murder plot, claimed that she had overheard discussions between Khaou Chuly and his son, Khaou Phallabot, about a plot to murder Sun Sotha.

“Sun Chanthol has since obtained much evidence including recordings of their conversations relating to their plot to murder and rape his wife and daughter,” Pal Chandara said, adding that his client had already submitted his cache of evidence to the court and anticipated the trial of the four suspects to begin soon.

“He will come to defend his lawsuit and show his strong evidence and proof at court,” Pal Chandara said. “He will also attend the trial to talk face to face with the accused when they are tried.”

Lim Vanna, Khaou Chuly and Khaou Phallabot’s defence lawyer, said he had only received his clients’ instruction for defence recently, so he could not comment about their cases.

Khaou Chuly, Khaou Phallabot and his wife Lay Hourng, and Seng Chenda’s daughter Huy Sok Leap could not be contacted for comment yesterday. Ek Chheng Huoth, a deputy prosecutor for Phnom Penh Municipal Court, who has held this criminal case, also could not be reached for comments.

Based on inside information, his son-in-law wants to take over his father-in-law fortune like cement factory, etc..., but the father refuses to give it to the son-in-law. Then, son-in-law is disappointed. Judge for yourself what happens now.
