The Politics of ‘Race’

A young man - Mong Touch, 22 - shot and wounded by armed security guards in another recent case of land dispute between villagers and private firms. These images point to the lack of strength of and legal-institutional protection mechanisms or safeguards for civil society at large, creating ample scope for civil conflicts and politicised ethnic based tensions to be handled literally through physical violence by organised forces aligned with the political-economic establishments - School of Vice.

by School of Vice

Ref. Caught between two Kingdoms [Why Khmers celebrate Chinese New Year?] the Phnom Penh Post.

The Khmers are probably more racially mixed through interbreeding with other racial groups than they are aware or be willing to acknowledge, and in terms of Sino-Khmer ethnic fusion or integration, they are on a par with most neighbouring countries like Laos and Thailand. So to suggest that 'The Khmer-Chen, Cambodians with Chinese blood, make up fewer than nine per cent of the population' is at best misleading. Virtually, all Khmers are racially mixed through gradual contacts with foreign migrants, particularly, Chinese people from Chinese provinces bordering the Khmer Empire down the centuries.

There are reasons why the Empire offered itself as such a promising destination to these migrants, and this has something to do with the all-round bountiful conditions of its environs, including demographic density and its corresponding demands on economic and natural resources like land use and food source. All of these factors stood in sharp contrast to those found in the ‘Middle Kingdom’ where constant struggle and competition for survival would have been far more intense and where natural disasters often led to famines and deaths for millions even without the added catastrophe and pressure of intermittent warfare between warring states prior to the Chinese communist revolution of 1949.

Apart from traditional Chinese quarters that can be found in urban commercial districts of most of Cambodia's major cities where ethnic Chinese or Sino-Khmers are most visible, racial integration through marriage among Khmers and Chinese descents has carried on in an almost imperceptible fashion throughout the rest of the rural parts of the country. Yet the gradual manner in which this integration has been affected historically and the melting-pot, cultural capacities of the host culture to absorb and induct new-comers into its fold and customs, making them part of their own distinct ethnic fabric has meant that any alien entities would have sooner become seamlessly submerged or infused well within the host culture's dominant ‘pot’ without diluting or doing violence to either respective set of the merging cultures – a co-habiting process known in anthropology and ethnography as 'acculturation'.

That the same process has proceeded up to today without experiencing - in relative terms – any notable racial-ethnic tension and disharmony is thanks in no small part to the peaceful, tolerant framework of the host culture, and in particular, the all-embracing outlook provided by Theravada Buddhism as this great influence had been adopted by the Khmers and adapted to their own existing indigenous cultural stock or pot.

Another factor worth noting is that the earliest waves of Chinese immigrants consisted mostly of men, and this is known to us partly through historical Chinese records gathered by Chinese envoys like Zhou Da Guan who travelled [and probably spied] the Kingdom during the late Angkorean period. Some of these men were former military conscripts; others were traders and drifters looking for adventure or on the run from the law back home; all of whom were lured into settling down in their adopted country by the temperate climate, the abundance of foods and the richness of the land in general, but just as importantly, for these men, the native women were exotic and easily wooed. Zhou’s observation on Khmer women’s apparently insatiable sexual appetite and their readiness to ditch their partners for new lovers when their carnal desire not adequately met may reflect more the prejudices and pre-conceived fantasies of the observer and of his fellow countrymen rather than anything with objective basis in reality. Nor was he the first and the last to have projected his own fantasies onto the people he was observing. European field researchers and anthropologists have been known to have produced libraries of archives about strange [“exotic”] and far-fetched romantic indigenous cultures whilst fathering, and eventually leaving to the care of the natives they studied, many an illegitimate child!

There was, in addition, the psychological-sexual temptation or allure of a cross-racial marriage, specifically, between people of contrast skin colour or complexion. The ‘savages’ of various tribes of Africa, Latin America or the natives of the Pacific colonies and islands; a people the Chinese would have described as “barbarians” may not be held in high estimation in cultural or intellectual terms by the ‘civilised’ participating observer, yet they were irresistible objects of temptation and fascination to be raped and lusted after all the same.  Hence, most of these Chinese men never returned to their places of birth. And hence many Cambodians today carry Chinese surnames as Khmer people customarily pass down the paternal family name through their offspring.

My reason for dwelling on this is to highlight the rather complicated issue of 'race' which has often been too conventionally and expediently exploited as a tool for advancing political motives. Indeed, in Cambodia's own recent past this exploitation had been engineered feverishly and to the detriment of all Khmers whether they considered themselves as "pure Khmer" [think of Saloth Sar's - Pol Pot - chosen pen name: 'Original Khmer'] or Sino-Khmer [Khmer-Chen] or even ‘Khmer-Vietnamese’ as this latter reference is becoming more and more pertinent in today's actual context even if people’s social attitude can be said to evolve at a much slower pace than do physical or biological phenomena.

Under Pol Pot's rule, the 'race card' proved to be such a destructive double-edged weapon that it went well beyond any genuine 'patriotic' or nationalistic desire to preserve perceived notions of "racial purity" or national self-preservation as such, that this misguided xenophobic sentiment left itself wide open to and for intractable enemies of the Khmer nation to turn that same weapon against its own kind; to eliminate the ethnic Chinese who ‘polluted the Khmer race’; to wipe out the hated Vietnamese through their constructed representations in the forms of those identified as "having Khmer bodies with Vietnamese heads", which is precisely what had been achieved - it must be added - to almost the last Cambodian or Khmer! What a perverse yet devastatingly effective device that is: borrow the hands of a people to butcher off their own kind willingly and ferociously without so much of the sentiment of pity or the benefit of a troubled conscience on the part of the ones doing the borrowing!

Sadly, there are still Cambodians who continue to harbour under this self-destructive ideology which they have unwittingly imbibed through twisted propaganda and indoctrination. What really defines a person or a ‘race’ is their actual emotion and attachment to a culture, a place or community which we all experience as humans. In short, it has everything to do with their social consciousness or self-perception which does not necessarily obey any biological laws or the limitations of any given artificially constructed concept like ‘race’ or ideology that throughout human history had been seized upon by political movements, national governments as well as states in the promotion of their own - often narrow - ends with untold bloody consequences.

The need and struggle for national self-determination and emancipation from foreign oppression or yoke, on the other hand, can be viewed as a function of unjust, inequitable relations between national states, or more precisely, a demonstration of deliberate violation of one nation’s sovereignty by another through state-led agendas and practices. This is a fault or defective characteristic, not so much of a people or even less a race, but rather a reflection of ambition of organised associations and groups in terms of their desire and greed that drive that ambition on relentlessly and at cruel expense of those – in this case, a smaller nation with recognised incompetent leadership - less well equipped to withstand their rape and onslaught.

Of course, it's not going to win me many awards writing about this emotive subject. But, still . . .

If Khmer people kill one person, the world knows and Khmer people look bad.

When other race killed millions of Khmers, the world don't even know who the real Khmer killers were.

The reason:

Khmer people are straight forward. We don't have tricks like other race especilly Vietnam.

Truth, must be long hidden according to Buddha.

Noah had 3 sons, from these 3 sons of Noah the earth was repopulated by them. So the question is: are we brothers or not by this truth?

But truth has been turned into a lie to make one think that this "race" group of people is better then that one. When truth is cast aside, man will decide his own destiny and it end up mostly disasterous most of the time.

It's more likely that South Asian people are in direct descendant of Ham, the second son of Noah. Even my native name is, Ham or Hom if you will. So lets all eat Ham to have some harmony will we?

The truth is, Noah believed in the true God of heaven and earth and did not worship idols like most people do today. As sons of Noah, we have erred from the true path of life as was upheld by our patriarchal father.

But God didn't leave us without hope. From the lineage of Shem, the first born of Noah came a family of people whom God raised up to be his chosen nation known as, Israel. The Shemites cover most of the Middle East today, the Arab states. They too are bickery about destroying each other and they eventually will.

The error is in the children of men not God that we can't get along with each other because people have cast God's truth aside to make themselves their own gods. They are reaping what they had sown in this regard. But truth is still available on earth today if we only will seek it out. If truth can really set men free, then men have not found that truth that match that reality.

A mystery? I know I speak mystery to a lot of you out there.

i think it is dangerous to use race in politics, especially in this day and age where the world rely on each other in trades, economies, etc, etc... instead of being racist, a country like cambodia should use the rule of law to deal with illegal immigrants, etc... as for history, the race thing was probably going was ways. we learned that when the viet/youn migrated down to khmer krom territories during the dark ages era, they too were racist against the native khmer by labeling khmer this or that just because khmer people were different from them, culturally and traditionally, etc... so, down the road, we would often see backfire of that sort of racist karma flow both directions. so, from the picture above, i wouldn't feel too sorry for those viet/youns until you know or study history. in the past, viet/youn rulers often looked down on khmer by calling khmer people as barbarians, lazy or whatever. and youn hated khmer and stole lands from khmer people, etc, etc... so what we saw later down the road was a backfire or a result of their hates and looking down on khmer people and so on... so, if you don't know history, i wouldn't be so biased with what you are seeing without trying to understand why khmer people did what they do then...

so, to reform this, cambodia must encourage and strengthen the rule of law instead, meaning everyone live by the rules and laws, instead of by distinguish group of race or language group or what have you, really! i know the rule of law society sound strange to most khmer people like most modern ways out there, but i believe khmer people will benefit once we grasp the concept of the rule of law in our country cambodia.

many things other country have fro granted, khmer people may not have concept of them, so we can learn from others around the world as well; that is the good thing.

Anonymous said...

it goes both ways historically. in the past, we learn viet/youn rulers labeled khmer as barbarians, lazy, etc just because we were different from them. also, they tried to force khmer to adopt viet/youn custom, culture, etc when they migrated down to the khmer krom areas of the mekong river delta during the dark ages era, etc... so, down the road this hatred passed down to khmer and the revenge, the hatred, etc go back and forth both ways. that's why in encourage cambodia to use the rule of law to deal with illegal immigrants, etc; this way it will benefit cambodia in a long term, i think.

The article looks interesting.
Khmer or not khmer is up to the individual. If you are Khmer, try to be the best you can be; if you are Chinese, try to be the best Chiunese you can be, etc.

I believe that there is no such thing as pur this or pur that even if I'm a dark skinned Cambodian, I never considere myself a pure this or a pure that. What does "pure" mean anyway-- by skin complexion, action, or by what?

To be honest, there are many light-skinned Cambodians that do a lot of good things for Cambodia.I believe that Youns, Laos, Thais and Cambodians were originally mixed with Chinese. I'm not dark nor light skinned Cambodian. I am a former poor farmer from Battambang. I meant very poor( I was lucky enough to be able to go to High School in Srok Sangke, Battambang). Almost ebveryone in my village was light skinned (most of them were lighter skinned than me-- all farmers). So, can I considere myself pure Khmer? I think the term "Cambodian" refers to a nationality-- one who is born in Cambodia? Khmer is considered both a race and a nationality, isn't it? One can be Cambodian but not Khmer. For example, a Chinese person born in Cambodia is not necessary Khmer, but a Chinese Cambodian if claimed that way. Any suggestion? Thanks.

Khmer rouge consider themselves pure khmer. Are you one of them? Dark skinned are better-- what do you mean by that? Are you considered yourself a pure Khmer? What do you look likje or do to be a pure khmer? Let us know please? I want to become a pure khmer as well. I have done afew things for my peoiple in Cambodiua: building a temple,a library, a 5-roomed school and dig a pond. Sorry, I have light skinned. But I considered my self a Khmer-- whether pure or not pure. Or whatever people mean by that.I eat food, wear khmer clothes, dance khmer dance, used to work on a farm in my village, went to khmer school and speak like khmer siemreap. So, I believe that no matter what one looks like, as long as he/she loves Khmer, helps Khmer, speaks khmer, protect khmer, etc. That person is more Khmer than any person who claims as khmer but has never done anything for khmer or has done many things to harm khmers.

using skin color or race or what have you as an excuse to hate, discriminate, etc is out of character and unwanted in cambodia anymore. it's like judging a book by its cover, that is real stupidity if you ask me, really!

of course, cambodia ought to make a law that do not discriminate anyone based on their skin color, national origin, religion, disability, age, social status, gender, sexual orientation and the like, you know. because hate is ignorance and a crime in cambodia! it should not be tolerated, period! otherwise, don't bother calling yourself democracy because you are not, ok!

(children) pool more money to help Cambodian school children in Takeo. They are all proud to be brown creatures.By your definiton, I can't be a pure Khmer (it's ok I'm proud of my light skin). But can my wife and my children be pure Khmer?

even nature and animals all have mixed breed, so there is no such thing anymore as pure race of khmer, etc. who cares, it's the ability to speak, read, write khmer that counts, and of course the love for khmer and cambodia and humanity that counts, not your skin color, ok! god bless cambodia and all our beautiful khmer people and citizens.

The dangerous part for Cambodia is that some of us Khmer don't value who we are. And for some don't even know our own heritage background-culture and history. This is the most vital if we are suppose to survive as Khmer nation for generations and generations to come.

As for me I don't give any credits at all to those Khmer s who claimed to be Chinese and celebrate Chinese New Year if they don't speak Chinese language what so ever- there are a lot of these type of people who wanted to be Chinese. May be some might have a grand father or mother as a Chinese or for some might had great or great great grandparents as Chinese.

The thing is if they are only speak Khmer they should just consider themselves as Khmer. I know that pure Khmer meant to have dark skinned and curly hair because we are of different race from Chinese and Vietnamese.

Another fact is that some Khmer pure have light skinned as well due to generations of mixed with the Chinese. They practise only Khmer culture and speak Khmer as their mother tongue language, so these Khmers are consider to be pure Khmer...

I'd like to say to my Khmer compatriots.... BE YOURSELF, UNDERSTAND YOURSELF and BE PROUD OF WHO YOU ARE..!! Because at the end of the day no nations in the world would be proud of you unless YOU yourself is the first person to do so. And of course stand up for yourself if you being put down by other nations. This is why it is important to understand yourself first...

study darwinism theory in biology, evolution is a natural selection over time, survival of the fittest evolves through time, so wake up cambodia, stop being ignorant forever, ok!

khmer people and citizens is a mixture of all nationalities on earth. even from the beginning is khmer history, khmer were mixed with dark skinned asian indian, local hilltribes, chinese, french, europeans, etc, etc... over time, all of them infused or assimilated into khmer race and called themselves khmer people, khmer nationality, khmer citizens and so forth. so stop using race as hate or discrimination of people in cambodia, ok! it is ok for our khmer people to evolve over time like our language evolves over, ok! there's nothing to be ashame about about that either. i'm sure other race have khmer people as mixed in their countries, too, you know. so, being mixed race is not that unique to any country any longer, you know! in fact, i think cambodia as a nation is fortunate to have all mixed race as khmer people and khmer citizens. it is like saying pure american people or whatever. the word pure is not appropriate, instead, the word original should be emphasized over pure, really! it is better to say i'm originally khmer or original american colonies, etc... don't say pure because it sounds so ridiculous like pure gold, pure honey, pure silver, or whatever, you know!

in cambodia, stop saying i'm khmer sot, instead say i'm seh khmer or i'm khmer nationality. don't say i'm pure khmer because it sounds so ignorant and stupid, to say the least, really!

"Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but not their own facts." www.tommywonk.com

=Well...What the Pol Pot did was a copycat of the Chinese Great Leap Forward and The Great Leap Forward aimed to use China's vast population to rapidly transform the country from an agrarian economy into a modern communist society through the process of rapid industrialization, and collectivization. Mao Zedong led the campaign based on the Theory of Productive Forces, and intensified it after being informed of the impending disaster from grain shortages which ended in catastrophe, resulting in tens of millions of excess deaths.[2] Estimates of the death toll range from 18[3] to at least 45 million,[4] with estimates by demographic specialists ranging from 18 to 32.5 million.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Leap_Forward

Now how the fuck the School of Vice able to tie the mass killing Khmer people to the "race card" used by Pol Pot? If the Pol Pot is so interested in killing off all Khmer and who the fuck is going to protect him from the Vietnamese who hates the most? Don't forget Pol Pot needs army and army come from the people and to kill off the people just doesn't make any sense!

When Pol Pot used the term ""having Khmer bodies with Vietnamese heads" mainly applied to the Eastern Zone during the violent purge against Khmer Rouge leader such Hun Sen, Heng Samrin, Chea Sim who later betray Pol Pot colluding with the Vietcong to invade Cambodia to overthrow Pol Pot from power!

I don't see how the mass killing of the Eastern Zone on those Khmer Rouge cadres who betray Pol Pot can somehow be tied to the mass killing of Cambodian population! It would be more accurate that the mass killing of Cambodian people can be tied to the misguided copycat policy of the Chinese Great Leap Forward by Pol Pot than anything I have experience, read, and heard during the Pol Pot era!

The VN is colonized by the Chinese for 1000 years.
There is much in common culturally and physically between a Chinese and a Vietnamese but vietnamese leaders never said that the Chinese and Vietnamese are brothers and sisters.

In United States also there is maybe for over 100 years, a large Chinese community and there are much Chinese Americans, but American presidents have never said that the Chinese and Americans are brothers and sisters.

Only in Cambodia, we hear such these against historical sense.

To day , some people say that cambodian and chinese are bother and sister, tomorrow, they can also said that Angkor Wat belongs to the Chinese. Why not?

the problem with some ignorant, stupid people in cambodia is that they kept bringing up the race issue, the skin color, etc, they don't see it as unite, citizenship, the brain power, the education, the content of character, the professionalism, the good ethical conduct, etc that count more. it's all about their evil attitude like they are better than other or other is inferior to them or what have you. it's their thinking that messed them up. they have no concept of worldly thing, of unity, of love and compassion, of education, etc... instead they focus their energy more on hate, discrimination all in the name of their hypocrisy this or that. some people can be so evil, that's the bottom line. i think only the rule of law will give justice to cambodia. without the rule of law in our cambodia and society, some evil individual(s) will abuse the system, will stir up hatred, discrimination, etc, chaos will pursue if they don't change their thinking, their way and embrace a worldly concept that cambodia is so lack behind with the rest of the world we all taken for granted, you know. it will take a good, educated leader to vision the rule of law put in place to prevent discrimination or all sorts and to protect justice, etc... in america, the forefathers or the great american statesmen foresee this and created law to protect all americans from discrimination based on race, religion, skin color, gender, age disability, sexual orientation, etc, etc... until khmer people wake up to this and realized the importance of having the rule of law to protect all its citizens, cambodia will never have peace because ethnic violence will cause destruction like during the stupid KR era. if that's not stupid, then tell me what it is. and don't even try using politics with this discussion because that's the root of the problem in the first place. so, regards to racist issue, i think people should leave politics out of this, period. cambodia should be like singapore or even malaysia where differences and racial discrimination is against the law there. and look at singapore, a tiny city-state nation become one of the economic powerhouse of asia. so, it goes to show that it's not the size of your country or your population, it's the good, clever, smart leadership that matters more, that makes a real, lasting difference above all. singaporean leadership have good vision, and cambodia and khmer people must learn from singapore example, i think. ban all discrimination in cambodia, even status discrimination was the issue all along. wake up, people, stop being stupid forever, ok! look at singapore's success, and bring it home to cambodia, ok! i'm serious! get rid of that negative energy or negative view from cambodia, embrace enlightment, ok!

To 8:26pm and 10:02PM (Baay Kdaing)

What is wrong with you guys? Why can people put their raw emotion and passion in their writing!

Nobody is stopping you from going to other sites to register your name just to voice their opinion and concern or do whatever! You want the people of the whole world to be like you "civilize shit" to use kind words on oppressive government to describe the brutality and the oppression on the Khmer people?

You must accept that the world is not a perfect world! If you want to live in a perfect world and why don't you create a bubble and live in it or do whatever you want to do!

By the way, KI did just that in the past requiring people to register just to voice their opinion and concern and only a few souls were in here to say what they want to say! Majority of the people disappear completely from KI!

good, smart leadership should find ways to solve national problem, not bury it or ignore it, you know!

and using violence is not the answer to solving issue, the rule of law will always prevail in solving problem of discrimination like in cambodia, etc... like it or not, everyone must by the rule of law in cambodia, period.

i don't like traffic signal either, but i have to live by it or i will get fined or lose my driver's license, you see. that's how it should be in our country cambodia, ok! so install more traffic signal and put police to work at intersections to enforce the existing rule and law of traffic, ok! same concept like this can be applied nationally to all rule of law in cambodia, you know. of course, it sounds stupid, but it's one way to solve social problem, ok! stop living in the dark hole forever, ok! get out and see the bigger world out there, ok! of course, there are more to cambodia than you and i, really!

did you know evil people thrive in chaotic situation. so don't make chaos in cambodia and evil individual will go elsewhere to do their evil thing, you know! in cambodia, it is like the good battle with the evil. who will prevail at the end? they say the good will always prevails the evil. let's pray that the case in cambodia forever. amen.

The real chinese from CHINA will not accept the khmer-chinese. The Khmer people are quick to accept them and even honor them because of their light skin. They now create Khmer-chinese association in Cambodia. They even go far to create association base on their chinese last name. They are the one that are racist toward the Khmer. I am surprise the KR did not wipe all the Khmer-Chinese out.

maybe they are a bunch of people with symptoms of depression and other mental illnesses. you know how depressed people think; they think denigrating thoughts and destructive thoughts, you know! that's why in the world, they are very strict with allowing depressed people fly airplanes, etc... they will cause death. also, they screened and registered and censored people who go into the healthcare professions, teaching profession, law enforcement profession, etc, etc... because they don't want felon, criminal, mentally unstable individual do those kind of jobs, you know. that's how cambodia should look at it this way by having more rule and regulations for people to live by or work by, etc, you know! use your brain and you will be surprised at what your good brain can tell you, ok!

You are one dump piece of shit. Now go and get a life.

you're right, but i wonder why they are dirt poor and uneducated in the first place? is it because cambodia lacks the system to help them or something else? or is it their own choosing...? and how are they suppose to fix the system if so? i'm sure using violence to solve social issue is not the answer, i think cambodia can use much needed reforms in all fields... what do you think? now be positive in your answer; no cynical or pessimistic or skeptical or biased view is allowed in your answer, ok, because that's not constructive and not helpful and uncalled for!

No country under the sky has one kind and pure race anymore since this is the globalization age.

Race mixing in a nation has been going on for centuries and it won't stop and it shouldn't; after all, purity of a race in a country has nothing to do with loving or guaranteeing a survival of a nation at all.

Using racial card in politics is outdated, very dangerous and will even threaten the survival of Cambodia as a nation! Recent history has clearly shown and should serve as a good lesson for current and potential leaders of Cambodia to stay away from it!

Lon Nol and Pol Pot represent the extreme and devastating policies of using race as a mean to come to and sustain their power.

America is a melting pot and I doubt that the White Americans worry about their country and identity being lost due to immigration of many people from different countries.

All Cambodia needs is to educate her own citizens or at least give the poor Cambodians an opportunity to learn so they compete with other people of various ethnic backgrounds living in Cambodia.

Cambodian culture is rich with traditions filled with many admirable and desirable features and for that reason there is no need to worry about Cambodia losing her identity.

National identity of every nation does change with time and that of Cambodia is of no exception. The change should be welcome and harboured as without change, there will be no new concept, development and a chance to improve onself.

If people want to celebrate Chinese New Year and have a mean to do so, let them do it! Why not?

Any New Year is a time to have fun, meet with friends and relatives and last, but not least, enjoy the good food, drink, songs and dances.

When April comes, Cambodians will celebrate the Cambodian New Year for sure so having 3 celebrations of New Year each year, one in January, the second still in January (for this year) and the third, which is the biggest one, in April is not a bad idea at all. That is what I like about Cambodia. When it comes to having fun, Cambodians do know how to do it!

As long as Cambodians in Cambodia still celebrate the April Khmer New Year, I have nothing to worry about as far as identity and culture of the country are concerned.

How about Vietnamese, Vietnamese Cambodian like you?

Une fois n'est pas coutume.

Stop generalizing.

Forget about the skin color and focusing on the present problem that Cambodia is facing.

Vietnamese are everywhere. They have posed great concern amongst Khmer people about the prospect that Cambodia will be the second Kampuchea Krom.

How to stop the Vietnamese from becoming the majority in Cambodia?
The trio puppets Hun Sen, Heng Samrin, and Chea Sim are indigenous Khmer but their minds are Yuon's slave.

Therefore, it does not matter about the skin color or pure Khmer or shit.

Whoever protects Khmer interest is Khmer.

if anyone wants pure race to call their own, i suggest go colonize the planets mars or venus because earth is not allowed the so-called pure race anymore, ok! remember history, the german once wanted pure race, then the stupid KR, etc..., and look what happened to them, they didn't last long did they? so, cambodia and the world, please learn from history, really. it serves us well.

also, japan, in the pre-industrial era, adopted a policy of isolation for a couple of centuries, meaning they did not allow any foreigner onto their islands, but that didn't last very long either. so, history indeed shows us that time and again those countries who dreamt of their so-called pure race always failed and cannot last long. reason? i think because it is so unpopular so no one really supported that idea, so over time, it disappeared when all those hardccore or extreme or radical leaders died from old age, etc, you see. so, be smart and enlightened, cambodia and khmer people, stop dreaming of that so-called pure race because there is no such thing anymore, ok! god bless cambodia.

instead, cambodia should focus on creating the good rule of law that everyone can live with, ok!

and talk about dictatorship, that guy franco of spain ruled spain its iron fist, but after his death of old age, look now, spain becomes a normal country again as if nothing happened to it before. and franco dictatorship ended in 1975 when he died from old age. nobody can live forever, really. be patient and get educated, please.

Why did you say Jayavaraman 7 was Chinese? From what I read his background, the guy came from Java then claimed to be related to Kampuchean Royal family. Who knew he may had lied. He was no difference than many gangsters, like Ginghis Khan of Mongolia, Nguyen of Hue (Annam), Chakri family. Those guys were mafia bosses, they took power by killing others.

Believe me, no body not even the scientists knew how many billion years already that we humans were formed. They only knew from sometime 5-6 thousand years ago through monuments (history) but not before that. All the evidences were sunk into the sea every time earth shifted.
There is no pure race, we can only concluded that we have three races: White(European) Black(Afican) and Brown (Asian).

Java not Jaya. Java is an island of Indonesia. The man who claimed himself related to Kampuchean Royal family was a mob leader or boss migrated from Java of Indonesia, he gathered his supporters and crowned himself King Jayavaraman VII. He was the butcher no difference than barbarian Nguyen of Annam. Jayavaraman VII massacred too many to build his very short empire. When he was Hindu his empire was powerful, but when he adopted Buddhism his empire begun to collapse.

It can be true who knows that Jayavaraman VII was Cham origin, because Champa Kingdom traced back they tied to Malay and Indonesian.

Even in North Korea, there are no pure race either. The Koreans were part of Mongoloid or the yellow race.
Even we just discovered the Atlantis under the sea, we still don't know how many million times our planet earth has been shifted.

For what purposes KI Media posted the photos of Lon Nol massacred Yuon?

Why is KI Media trying to show the world how ruthless Lon Nol was?

Does KI Media defend Yuon or Khmer?

KI Media. You MUST remove the Photo at the top immediately. Lon Nol did not massacre Yuon if they did not arm themselves with guns weapons to destroy from within.

KI Media. You guys are shown your true color.

Jayavaraman VII was a usurper from Indonesia and a butcher. It's good he built the empire but it was bad when he turned his face away from GOD (Hindu) to Buddhism to suppress Khmer people from rising against his absolute authority. Kampuchea Curse, the empire collapsed and now the little tiny Kingdom handed over to Yuon by GOD (Hindu).

In Cambodia, Khmers are so proud of Jayavaraman VII, the usurper/butcher and his absolute power, and in Vietnam the Viet Congs are so proud of the mad dog murderer Ho Chi Minh.

And In Thailand, the brother's killer has been sitting on Thai throne for more than 60 years. The murderer is sitting on the throne and he is not the first criminal who has all power.
