SI SA KET (Thailand), Jan 9 (Bernama) -- A group of activists from Thailand's five northeastern provinces has rallied in Kantaralak District of Si Sa Ket Province to oppose a government decision on Thai troops' withdrawal from the Thai-Cambodian border near the ancient Preah Vihear Temple, reports Thai News Agency (TNA).
The Thai activists, comprising those representing the Palang Phandin Group and those from northeastern Buriram and Surin Provinces, have echoed their common stance that Thai troops are to be maintained in the area until border issues between Thailand and Cambodia are settled.
More leading activists are arriving in the area to join the rally and to discuss their further movements against the government's plan.
Thai and Cambodian authorities recently reached a deal on pulling out both countries' troops from the unsettled border area, where a spate of clashes erupted earlier, as ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ), pending the Hague-based World Court's decision on a petition earlier filed by Phnom Penh seeking an interpretation of its verdict on the Preah Vihear Temple ownership in 1962.
