PHNOM PENH (Cambodia) A bus crash in Cambodia has killed a Russian woman and left dozens of people injured, including 40 other Western tourists.

Ouk Sokha, the traffic police chief of southwestern Koh Kong province, says the accident occurred Tuesday when one of the bus' front tires burst. The bus was carrying the tourists to Koh Kong from the popular beach resort town of Sihanoukville.

Ouk Sokha said some of the injured were in serious condition and all had been taken to a hospital. Six Cambodian passengers were among the injured.

He said he was not yet able to give more details about any of the victims, including the Russian woman who was killed.

Nearly 2,000 people died in traffic accidents in Cambodia last year.

traffic accidents happen all over the world as we speak. it can happen anywhere in any country, not just in cambodia, you know. so, i wouldn't be so biased against cambodia in this sense, really! just because this is an accident, does that mean people must stop riding the bus? instead, they should focus more on road safety and other traffic law, etc, really!

Driver is responsible to do a checklist before each day work. The list includes checking air pressure, tires condition, lugs... The proper term is, safety inspection.

When front tire blows one's initial response is to break, not so with a commercial vehicle; the proper way to avoid big problem is to accelerate for better control before bringing the vehicle to a stop. Unless the bus was already going slow. Still, let the momentem bring it to a stop. This applys to cars too. if front tire blow out, let the momentem bring the vechicle to a stop.
