Daer My Borther Ung Bun Heang,
I understand freedom to express , speak and report were the privilege of the KHMER REPUBLIC unlike the Monarchy and the Kingdom but since I had exposed to our war with Vietnamese and Vietcongs , the impeachement of Prince Sihanouk in the early 1970, beside Lok Lon Non ( Lon Nol 's younger brother ) you and Lok Soth Poline were absolutely Not bad either in internally destroying the Khmer Republic while facing under attacks from the Vietnamese and Vietcongs.
I still remember you drew Lok Ung Mung as Aunh Maunh and Lok Trinh Hoanh ( sounded like Vanh ) as Trinh Huanh ( Sra Chan Troung, Quang Yang An ) in Khmer Old Saying words Doch Herk Doeum Truong ! Auy K-erk Chek !
and you did a great job at that time My Brother Ung Bun Heang in self destrive
Cheer
Thank you for your comment.Right now I'm a real black sheep in Cambodia and my anonymous brother can go enjoy & have fun in Cambodia at any time.
The cartooning is a great mirroir what reflects to the society from the past until it today.
The power & Greed had caused the chaos what was only a small fact that
brought down of Khmer Republic regime .
The western Media was also did finger pointed to Khmer republic as their escape goat as the failure of this tiny country.
To reduce their live troops while their withdrawal from Vietnam ,Uncle Sam had dragged Cambodia into the war to slow down its death .
Did US care about the lost Cambodia and its people ?
Only her own interests !!!??
Cambodia was no choice in somebody war, liked or not we played along with this game that we not were the player.
How could a tiny Cambodia beat the Vietcong army ? One of the strongest army in the world that made US army kneed down !
Today the white house's foreign policy is going back to Hanoi as her new ally to confront toward China.
And again US troop withdraw from Iraq & Afghanistan, why ?
The 2 are becoming the escape goats of the failure of US's foreign policy.Corruption ?
I would like to see how American is confront with China who is the US's creaditor ?
Time will tell !!!
Cheers,
Ung Bun Heang,

An observer of Khmer politic since 1970 until now,2012.
Dear compatriot 2:00 PM:
You sound like you have an ax to grind with young Bun Heang, I am asking you to cool it and look at the Khmer Republic disastrous revolution in a different light.
18 March 1970 would not have gone rather bloodless if the student activists, which young Bun Heang was a part of, were to rally against the idea of taking down the utterly tyrannical yoke of Sihanouk.
The hopes and dreams of young Khmer who had all this penned up thoughts and frustration in trying to tell the senior elite to change from the old self-serving cronyism and authoritarian rule to the one that uphold the rule of law, foster transparency, freedom of speech to include criticism of government, which are the essential characters of a free democratic republic – Lon Nol and Sirimatak started out with a noble intention unmatched by any previous Khmer ruler, unfortunately the responsible Khmer elite who professed to follow this ideal failed terribly to bring this concept into reality, because most of them were still deeply romanticizing Sihanouk’s era of power and perks, and worst, the majority of them never subscribe to the concept of free speech and popular criticism which are apparently totally foreign to them.
To blame young Bun Heang or anyone else in that matter for the demise of the Khmer Republic is grossly unjust; after all, behind close door, US policy makers in Washington were expecting the FANK to only last two freaking years, but together with upward of 8 to 10 battalions of Khmer Krom, we were able to hold on, and bought two more agonizing years for the Republic; all paid for by the blood of our inadequately trained and equipped, malnourished, barefoot, and demoralized young troops; not to mention the eight Khmer Krom battalions that were decimated from reckless overuses and abuses.
Before I close my comment I would like to illustrate one account among many which I had personally witnessed on how the older generation of powerful elite especially the senior military officers (I’m sorry for tearing our chest open and exposing our collective wound) conducted themselves during that period. In hindsight, I feel the need to give young and old Khmer a glimpse into the absurdity of the thought and practice of the people in power back then:
A Colonel Regiment commander in the sector of operation I was assigned, got into an argument with the local civilian deputy district administrator (Interim Chauvay Srok). The colonel though this military rank by default gave him the absolute authority over the district civilian administration in the sector of defense; eager to display his authority, he then slapped the unfortunate gentleman in the face and humiliated him in front of other officials civilian and military in the room. The next day the man left a note, and snug out the defense perimeter of the forward combat front, and gone to join the Vietcong and KR. Needless to say for awhile we had such a terrible time finding a safe shelter against the constant harassment of incoming enemy artillery barrage which seem to know where our guns and ammo emplacements positions were within the town defensive perimeter. This is just one among many of such disgrace by the people who supposed to make Lon Nol’s idea of a republic work.
As for young Bun Heang, whom you think he was defiant loose cannon, let me ask you this:
If you set yourselves up as a serious revolutionary fighting for change, would you want your younger brother whom you count on to eventually cover for you, to be a coward, or someone who is much bolder than you are?
I personally advocate the latter, and I must defend young Bun Heang. I hate tyranny, I’m definitely not a fan of obedience and conformity, I know he has been and will be much more passionate than I am in these issues. I say more power to him, and to those youngsters who inspire to follow his footsteps.
Live & Learn
All of you fucking Sihanouk/Vietcong sevants so-called elites, intellectuals, Military or otherwise with the exception of just a few (e.g Khiev Samphân...) were corrupted to the backbones:
Thong Van Phan Moeung, The Fernandez, Srey Meas, Thapna Gnin, Chantareangsey etc...etc...Their files and Bios are still burried somewhere in the warehouse in VA. Come and get it if you fucking asshole old farts want, and want to know.
Know this, all of you fucking old farts...Ah Sihanouk had been YUON's agent since day one!
Once can say that, in a sense, Ah Sihanouk had been brought up and raised by the Vietcong!!!
អាខ្ទឹម
one can say that***
Dear My Brother Ung Bun Heang , Your sentiments towards American is not a major reality, As you already knew that Sihanouk had been playing very significant roles in Vietnam War , We are The Khmer Republic already asked the North Vietnamese and Vietcongs to withdraw their troops from our territory but our demands were completely denied and beside The Ho Chi Minh Trail , the reports all around the world not only from America described and revealed the huge and giangantic military and medical supplies 80 % were transported via Sihanouk Trail and American had no other choices beside invading Cambodia was President Nixon 's Doctrine.
And once again, my brother Ung Bun Heang , yes you had the right to criticize some our bad Military Commanders but not all of them were incompetent and corrupt , pshycholgically, you attacked not only the individuals but to all who were good , brave and nationalist and happened to be in the same boat just like our old Khmer Saying "Boeur Min Chuoy Chauk ! Min Chuoy Cherv ! Som Kom York Cheung Rea Toeuk !
And I personally appreciate your profesional ways of response toward my statement.
And to Mr. Live & Learn , Thank you so much for your professional response toward my comment but I was there as well witnesing what My Brother Ung Bun Heang and Lok Soth Poline had to say and once again in stead of help is hurt while we were crawling as a new born baby to fight against the Giant Vietcongs .
Your military services to our Khmer Republic are highly and honorably appreciated with my gratitude.
You were talking about our Khmer Krom Kan-Serng Sar and their battalions I have no words to say what our General Lon Non had misserably treated them abusively !
and my final words , If I could start over again fighting against Sihanouk , North Vietnamese , Vietcongs and Khmer Rouges and I would but waging war is not a good solution my Brothers .
Best Wishes & Cheers
