PHNOM PENH: A Russian woman was killed and dozens of foreign tourists were injured when their bus swerved and flipped onto its side after its front tyre burst in Cambodia on Tuesday, police said.
The vehicle crashed as it took 46 passengers, including 40 foreign tourists, from Cambodia’s popular seaside port of Sihanoukville to the Thai border, according to Ouk Sopha, head of traffic police in western Koh Kong province.
“All passengers were injured, including many Western tourists. A 23-year-old Russian girl died after being admitted to hospital,” he told AFP by telephone.
The driver, who police believe was driving at high speed before the crash, fled the scene.
Traffic accidents are a leading cause of death in Cambodia, killing more than 1,600 people in 2010.
Better roads — allowing people to go faster — and more vehicles contribute heavily to this bloody toll, but bad driving is the main cause behind most accidents, police say.

Driving too fast, no speed sign on the road.
cambodia must start improve its bus system in the country. sometimes, i think too long of an isolation from the developing world makes cambodia naive and slack behind in so many way, especially in infrastructure, standard of living, etc, etc, you know! instead of depriving cambodia again, the advanced countries out there should give cambodia much needed assistance in traffic law training, etc. you see, when you punish cambodia for too long, these kind of thing prone to happen due to lack of education and training, you see. please help to train cambodia in all fields in the name of humanity so cambodia can make it safe and enjoyable for all tourists who like to visit cambodia. it will benefit everyone when the advanced world is willing to help train and give assistance to cambodia to improve the infrastructure, etc in my country cambodia, really.
some people think they hurt cambodia, but they acutally hurt everyone who want to visit cambodia if they continue to be biased toward and deprive cambodia from advance development, etc.
