Many people, government officials, intellectuals, and the general public, have expressed their different reactions on different channels like TVs, radio, blogs, facebook, Twitter and other means of media regarding to the news published recently that India now is constructing the replica of Angkor Wat which will take it for 10 years to complete and expend for £13 million for the construction. With this, some voice anger while others are being proud of the worldly fame of Angkor Wat being spread.
Personally, I have both senses of support and objection basing on the following conditions:
1). Angkor Wat must first be put as the pure national symbol and pride to serve the national interests, pride, and unity which the privilege rights given to Sok Kong must be cancelled and its management must be transparent. Ortherwise, Angkor Wat is not our pride any more because it belongs to and serve the interest of specific individual and group and we don´t need to complain against India.
2) We can suggest India for the construction of replica of Angkor Wat with a smaller size like any other countries built other replica of Pyramid of Egyp or Tour Eiffel of France. This will not affect our Angkor Wat´s spirit and pride, but it will bring more glory to us.
3) When Angkor Wat is managed transparently and for the common interests of the nation, but India keeps moving with its construction plan, then; Cambodian government can submitt direct diplomatic protest to Indian government and the involved institution.
4). If this is still not respected, then; our complaints must be submitted further to UNESCO for this violation of property rights since Angkor Wat is registered as the property of World Heritage.
5) If these steps are not respected, then; the International Court of Justice can be persued as the last resort.
Again, If we still treasure Angkor Wat as our pride, soul, and life, we must first reject the privilege rights given to Sok Kong. We demand this privilege rights given to Sok Kong be unconditionally terminated and its management must be transparently administered by pure Khmer or Khmer government for the common sake of all Khmer people.
