“I think his actions were very inhumane and cruel to his son
A father was on the run from the authorities in Battambang town after he beat his teenage son and chained him to a power pole on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Deputy provincial police chief Colonel Cheth Vanny said 40-year-old motodop Sok Thoeun was upset with his son Sok Khorn, 13, for playing video games, and forcibly removed him from an internet café where he was gaming.

“He caught him and beat him very brutally,” Cheth Vanny said.

As well as beating his son, he put chains around the boy’s neck and legs and locked him to a power pole on a nearby street in the village, in order to show [his son] to the public.

Cheth Vanny added that after locking up his son, Sok Thoeun had left the scene and resumed his activities as a motodop.

Sok Khorn was unchained from the power pole by police and sent home to stay with his mother.

A villager in the area, who asked to remain anonymous, said Sok Thoeun was a cruel man and was often violent towards his children.

“I think his actions were very inhumane and cruel to his son,” the villager said.

Khan Sereyuthy, a lawyer for Bou Nou Ouk & Partners, said yesterday Cambodia’s penal code stated that any form of violence or torture used against a child was punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

“Any person who uses violence, detains or tortures a child is acting against the law,” Khan Sereyuthy said.

Police said they were searching for the suspect.

Dear, do you sure that is the tree?

I mean, are you sure that is the tree ?

The tree or the pole what different do they make, whiners?
The central part of the story is that the boy was chained to that thing like a dog, do you get it?
Damn, whiners, whiners.

Poor tree...

I agree with 6:29 PM. For some people the tree or the pole is more important than the boy’s life. There is always some kind shithead in this world.

If a guy can do this to his own son, can anyone image what he can do to the rest of us? I say jail him in an isolated cell for three days without food, just give him water.

Yes,kids can play game, but set up
schedule for them. How long can they play?
How many days a week can they enjoy
game?
Did they follow family rules?
How to punish them? But not to punish
him like this.
The parent lacked of educations and
lacked of family leadership.
This what someone can call:
Stupid from the top officials,
stupid to the bottom.

Just put Ah stupid father to jail.

Kid is a kid. He does not deserve this kind of treatment from his crazy father.

This kind of violence has spreaded in Khmer society for a long time: the stronger people punish unjustly the weaker people.

This how Ah Kwack treats our people too.

Ah Kwack has power (even Yuon's slave power), so he suppresses other people, thinking that his action is normal and acceptable.

"The 40-year-old father, Sok Thoeun, and is now wanted on child abuse charges."

=Child abuse is a Western concept! In Cambodia this is called discipline! But to discipline or to embarrass a child in public is not the right way to do thing! Nobody show this father how to manage and to deal with his unruly child! I truly have sympathy for this father! I wish the Super Nanny can come to Cambodia and show this father how to deal with his child!

How much does a motorbike taxi driver make a day in Cambodia? And for this child to behave like he is a rich kid and playing game all day is unspeakable! The poor children in Cambodia do hard labor and never have the chance to go to school! But anyway this child obviously needs more times to realize what just happened to him! Sometimes children need tough love! As the proverb goes and you can only bend a tree while it is still young!
