Cambodian Children Fund Receives Generous Donation from Credit Suisse (Hong Kong)

Three New Schools to Service the Most Impoverished Communities

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia and HONG KONG, April 17, 2012 /PRNewswire-Asia/ -- Cambodian Children's Fund (CCF), a non-profit charity that provides education and other social services to impoverished children and families of Phnom Penh, announced that it has received a US$90,000 donation from Credit Suisse (Hong Kong).

"We are very thankful for Credit Suisse's generosity to our cause," said Scott Neeson, Executive Director of CCF. "With their support, we are able to expand and build schools to allow more children into our program."

Based in Steung Meanchey, a district of Phnom Penh, the organisation has educated hundreds of children using its internal education system teamed with the public school system. However, CCF is seeing more children enrolling in school faster than they can build classrooms. With the donation from Credit Suisse, CCF is able to open three more satellite schools.

"CCF is a progressive and effective charity that is positively impacting the lives of Cambodian children through education," said Patrick Kerrigan, Managing Director & Head of Human Resources, Asia Pacific of Credit Suisse. "We are proud to be sponsoring the development of more schools and involved in providing a brighter future for Cambodian children."

The CCF education model combines quality education to Cambodia's most impoverished children while simultaneously supporting the families and underlying community structure. Even at this early stage, the Credit Suisse investment has placed 500 children in full-time education and provided essential services to hundreds of families.

CCF also provides community assistance to families of the impoverished children. The families receive free medical care, rice at subsidized prices (free if the child has a perfect attendance record), fresh water, maternal care and emergency housing.

"The program is not based on any recognised model," added Neeson. "But it works because it's not just about education; it's about the whole family and the community."

I'm very happy for Scott Neeson and his organization. But, I'm also worry. With all the money, I'm sure Hun Sen's Cronies are salivating and want to have a share. They'll try to find a way to get some or they'll give him troubles.
