Norodom Ranariddh attempted to link himself and his party to world-famous Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi and her National League of Democracy party yesterday, saying the two faced similar obstacles within their respective governments
Just as Suu Kyi said she had no choice but to run for office in an election she openly criticised, Norodom Ranariddh said he was working within a government and election process he did not fully support.
“[Suu Kyi] said that if she wants to help the nation she has no choice besides being a parliamentarian. This is similar to what I have been saying,” Ranariddh told reporters during a meeting at the party’s headquarters in Phnom Penh yesterday.
“I prepare myself to be in office just as Aung San Suu Kyi,” Ranariddh said.
The NRP president also accused the government of not acting in the best interests of the people, in contrast to what he said had occurred during the administration of his father, King Norodom Sihanouk, when the people were put first.
“In the time of my father, there was no rich people grabbing land from poor people,” he said. Instead, Ranariddh said, the King Norodom Sihanouk administration had “defended our territorial integrity, our national sovereignty and social justice”.
Cheam Yeap, a lawmaker for the ruling Cambodian People’s Party, defended the government.
“What was the prosperity of the Sihanouk regime? How many bridges did it build over the Mekong River? We [the CPP] have built this country from nothing, especially the economy,” Cheam Yeap said.
Opposition Sam Rainsy Party spokesman Yim Sovann said Ranariddh’s comparison of the NRP to the NLD was baseless because the NLD is far more popular, winning 45 seats in the recent election, while the NRP has only two seats.

Between Pol Pot and Ranarridh, Pol Pot had done someting good for the country compare to Ranarridh which did nothing excepted be a dog of CPP in exchange for money and peraonal interests.
Democracy is failed because the weakness of FUNCINPEC leader. With 80% won during UN election but he could not nothing against CPP communist under Viet that Khmers people hated. For me, I will choose Gen.Lon Nol or Pol Pot is to be better. All are cheat for the poor khmer people.

You don't look like a stupid man, but you offered a stupid comment defending the undefendable; therefore, you are knowingly stupid!
Taking your logic further, you are trying to tell me that your government is even better than that of the Angkor era since they did not build any bridges at all over the Mekong!
How much forest has been destroyed so far by your government?
How much land has been lost to the neighbors by your government?
How much natural environment has been destroyed by your government?
And how much Cambodian natural resources have been extracted by your government?
This is a modern age, building such a bridge across the Mekong is no big deal!
Prince Ranariddh was not wrong in saying that the Sangkum Reastr Niyum government was better than your CPP government. Except for his stupidity in joining the KR after being overthrown, Sihanouk's government of Sangkum Reastr Niyum, though it fell short of many things to be considered ideal, is still the best among all the rest that came after and yours is the worst in term of destroying the country.
With all of the destruction that you have created at the expense of Cambodia, a reasonable government can build and reduce poverty much more than your government.
Your government spends $10.00 (for example) for something that can be built with $ 2.00 because approximately $5.00 goes to the investors and $3.00 goes to your group. The Chinese are not stupid; they don't give you anything for free and you are a Sino Khmer so you should be the last person to brag about your government pretending not to know that the investors take more than they should and your group takes as well when it should not as the $3.00 your group takes belongs to the Cambodian people.
