De Launey said was very correct, except I disagreed with him when he said Chut
Wutty was not deliberately targeted.
If Guy read what happened to Wutty in the past in almost the same spot he would not have said that. I believe Wutty was targeted because he had been to the same place around last year and they (police and provincial officials) threatened that if he 'ever comes back', they would kill him.
Just after Wutty was killed, Radio Free Asia interviewed one of Wutty's friends, I think it was Chhim Savuth, who said that last year Wutty led a group of tribal people to protest against logging in almost the same spot where he was killed. The police tried to arrest him on the spot, but he escaped to Koh Kong town, and they followed him, pointed the guns at him and arrested him there. He was only released after the tribal people fought back to rescue him. After he was arrested and released, he was sternly warned that if he ever comes back to the site again, he would be killed.

This was a ploy to bring him with them and kill him on the way in the jungle somewhere. But luckily, Wutty did not agree to go with them. So, I believe that Guy did not get all the facts before he made the assumption that Wutty was not deliberately targeted. I think they planned to kill him based on the threats they gave Wutty not to come back and based on the actual accounts of witnesses of what happened on that day, like someone ordered the 2 journalists to be killed as well.

Com on MAN! I do respect him, but he was not a high ranking officer or government officer. The people will and has been death no matter what level you have carried on, if he would had been one of the high ranking officer, I would still remember that. please let it goes, there's lot of Khmer heroes who had died for the country in the past not just him. Once again, I respect the death of Chut Vutty.

Your reason is substantially correct, but this gentleman C. Wuthy died for a good cause, as Cambodian people have hoped for their hero and C. Wuthy came to the right time, and so he is the right man to be considered a hero unexpectedly.
As for your another reason that C. Wuthy is not a member of high ranking government official, therefore he cannot be loved or cared by his people, I completely disagree with you. Because all the members of CPP to Hun Sen (ex-peasant), the world regard them as always low class people.
Hun Sen can have all stars on his shoulders still he is a low class person, and so are his family members.
Well, I understand your point of view regarding the death of Chut Vutty. Let’s being about myself, I am not a dummy person as to some people here have stated, we all human, we can be dumb too. I was a Khmer Rouge soldier, I have gone to school leaning English like everyone else, I have quired degrees, presently I am a cop who work at night shift and some day shift. I do respect the death of that man, but he is gone and he was not the only one who have served the country, we still have lot of goodies people like him. Why can you guy pay respect to your families and those who have died in Khmer Rouge regime? Khmer Rouge era, we had had lost a lot of our good Khmer heroes, such as professors, teachers and higher ranking government officers and plus wealthy Khmer families too. Thus, why can you pay respect to them? Khmer Rouges were not DUMB as you stated, we still have educates Khmer who are smartest and brilliant to run the country. Somdech Madechu Hun Sen was a Khmer Rouge soldier, but he had never and ever killed any of Khmer – khmer heroes. Hun Sen’s families not low class families, you can search. Can you see Hun Sen’s children? They get more education then you. Am I clear to you? You don’t know who you are, you are probably young generation. Don't be bothered by a few who are irrational, or don't be bothered by KI. You get to realize that KI is a group anti-Hun Sen, the Viets' client or puppet. So its avenue is to attack Hun Sen and the Viets.
"Hero" does not require the person to have degrees just that he or she sacrifice his or her life for national interest while many others cannot.
If you were in C. Wuthy's shoes, you will be remembered and loved all over the world by Cambodian people. I hope you can understand that C. Wuthy is the man who died for a good cause, the man who came to the right time, the right place and the right issue.
