A reader informed us the picture of the coin we posted earlier was from the French colonial era and was highly influenced by its French design, as well as by the use of the "Piastre" currency. This reader also sent us a photo of the "Prak Duong" coin (see below), also known as the "Preah Bat Ang Duong's coin".
Based in the date shown on the coin above - Buddhist era 2390 or Chol Sakrach 1209, i.e. Christian era of 1847 - it predates the French protectorate era and coincides with the reign of King Ang Duong (1841-1844, 1845-1860). Looking at this coin, you can now guess why the "Hangsa" bird is now used to represent Cambodia's National Bank.

Khmer should know fact of the history of Prak Duong and should not forget Prak Duong era where Thai looted our Khmer treasure, Preah Kor and Preah Kao. That's why Thai has the same cultures, language and tradition like Khmer culture. Thai never has war because Thai had Preah Kor and Preah Kao.

The Thais never have any culture, custom, tradition, or any system of practice of their own. They stole everything from Cambodia. And now they are on the high horse, they never acknowledge anything. The Thais think that the world doesn't know. They are so convoluted and because of htat they look like dumb asses on the world stage.

the french came to cambodia and introduced paper money, while stole khmer gold and silver. that was the biggest trick during the colonial era. that said, the french printed paper money to substitute gold and silver.
save the khmer coins, this is very historical. recently in america, a penny dated back to 1792 was sold for over a million US dollars at auction, you know. the older something is, the more valuable it is. why? simply, because it's rare.
collectors who collect them are usually rich people that want to make a difference by donating it to the national museum for all to see, learn and appreciate something rare from a different era in history, you see. god bless cambodia always.
