Women Building Democracy - Is it our Business?

Women Building Democracy - Is it our Business?

When watching and hearing about the revolution that is shaking decades of dictatorship in the Arab world,I ask myself : When in Cambodia?

I have been in this business of building democracy for more than two long decades. Is there hope for change?

"When" is not the first question to ask.

I believe that the first question is: How?

Is the how happening?

I believe that the"how" is the grassroots movement and it is happening in small scale but it is happening in different parts in Cambodia. When our farmers can walkover 200 kilometers from the North-West to the city to lodge their complaints, I think the government sees this as the beginning of a big movement. This explains the cracking down on demonstrators - almost always with violence and even on women and children.

We must nurture this movement by fighting for liberties and freedoms and women have a huge part in this fight as women are first to be affected by injustice, violence and discrimination.

Each step taken is for the future of our women so we are part of building a better Cambodia.

Each $ invested will help us move forward.

Ms Mu Sochua,

You are Khmer role model. You are the next Aun Sung Suki, not Sam Rainsy or his wife. I hope you will seize party leadership very soon in time for 2013 election. Please sideline all cowardice and make real democracy works in Cambodia.

The Honorable Mu,

Yes, indeed! The "How" can be built slowly with one person, one community, one village, etc. at a time.

Empowering the ordinary people of Cambodia is the best way to fight dictatorship, corruption and injustice and this empowerment will also prevent its return in a country such as Cambodia where the ordinary people must be educated to take back the power from the small elite, but idiotic group and make them realize that the people are the real power.

As this power grows, the pressure on the currupt CPP government will be built up and change will be possible.

My sincere respect to you for your sacrifice and courage!

The King of Cambodia has done nothing much to improve the lives of poor Cambodians except smiling, waving his hand and providing small donations every now and then. The source of money to sustain his donation work is certainly to be investigated! I hope it does not come from those who plunder the wealth of the country and the very people who have created all of the suffering with their land-grabbing activities.

The Cambodian Monarchy has lost the only opportunity it still has to redeem the meaning, merit and justification of its existence due to its shortsightedness, lack of courage, absence of leadership and last its willingness to maintain its existence through the hand-out from those in power rather than earning its own existence; it is too bad it has decided to sleep with evil!

It will eventually die a terrible death with very few mourners if there are any at all.

In the past a leader was a boss,
but today's leader leader must be
partner like Mu Sochua.

Ah Hun Sen,you are dog.

I agree with all the above commentators. It is time for Khmer woman play a bigger role in Cambodia politics. Hon. Mu Sochua has struck a chord with woman voters. There are more woman voters than men. Why don't we endorse her as prime minister candidate in 2013. Sam Rainsy had 3 chances already. The best he can do now is 26 seats. Because of Kem Sokha if SRP did not have a new alternative, SRP will have LESS THAN 26 MPs. To say that does not mean Sam Ransy a poor leader. In my humble opinion Mu Sochua has a better chance of getting more MPs.Sam Ransy and his wife has the past haunting them so Kem Sokha has a chance of stealing votes. And we think of real democracy I don't think Ransy and his wife mind? Do they?
