That is what Buddhism about. Give away everything and concentrate on Heaven (not sure they will be allowed to be in heaven or not. I doubt they will).
In Cambodia young boys and men becoming Buddhist monks, and they are populated more than the poor people who cannot even feed their stomach.
If the Monks can grow vegetable to eat would be great but they grab a little food that the poor have left.
Adopting the foreign religion but Cambodians are going backward far below beyond reached. Relying on others to feed them while they are seeking to climb to heaven. Will GOD open the door of heaven for these people that many now see them as "Egoist"?
The country has been in turmoil about 800 years since they embraced Buddhism abandoning Hindu they once worshiping more than thousand years.
The whole world more and more seek GOD for protection for victory against their enemy, and miracles happened to them. Million from nearby nations through Middle East, Asia and Africa flock to visit Portugal, to pay a respect to a messenger of GOD called (or Blessed Virgin called Lady of the Rosary or Lady Fatima) who appeared in 1917, while Cambodians were blocked from knowing the true of the outside world.
The leaders are afraid of Cambodians may seek the truth, and here they are, "Heaven" is their hope left the poor and the country invaded by the same enemy behind.
Cambodia, the land of my father is forever lost. I only keep praying that GOD will spare Cambodia and her people, and give them a second chance.

If they have faith in GOD, they will fight by teaching their children and new generations about Viet invaders, and they'd pray and fast day and night that GOD be by their young generation' side and so to fight against the enemy. With GOD helps everything are possible. But these people focus on going to heaven for themselves while the new generation are left alone to fight the enemy with no future.
This is how the enemy (Viets) love to see.
Btw: Do not blame Buddha. He was only sent to earth to teach all human beings "how to end the sufferings". But He (Buddha) was not sent to teach humans to conquer and kill others. Only GOD can do all. GOD is love, but if the place has no love nor peace, GOD can defeat all (severe punishment) if those who have a very strong Faith in HIM ask for.
I bet Yuon spies are among the organizers in that Temple. Calling more and more Khmers to abandon the country but to focus on going to heaven. Yeahh heaven for Yuon not for Khmer. Our people are living suffer abused by Yuon's puppets day and night, we are left alone in cold and dark.
We need to defend our land. If Lord Buddha was not allowed to teach us to fight, only to abandon everything to heaven, we need GOD who is the Mightiest One to help us.
Yuon LOVE to see this commitment to heaven. Abandon the nation and all.
