“If the merger is based merely on dividing power among its members, it will lead to failure.”
Cambodia’s opposition parties have a slim chance of winning national elections next year, but only if they merge together and set a clear platform in time, a leading analyst says.

The Sam Rainsy and Human Rights parties have discussed the possibility of merging together, but they have so far remained separate entities. The Sam Rainsy Party has 26 seats in the National Assembly. The Human Rights Party has just three. The ruling Cambodian People’s Party, by comparison, has 90 of 123 seats.

“If after they merge together and are able to keep their momentum up, it could lead them to a victory,” said Ou Virak, head of the Cambodian Center for Human Rights, as a guest on “Hello VOA” Thursday. The opposition would need to draw “swing voters,” which could lead to as many as 10 more seats, he said, and it would have to be appealing to former supporters of the struggling royalist parties of Prince Norodom Ranarridh and Funcinpec.

The party merger, which is to be discussed by party officials later this month, is a matter of life or death for the opposition, Ou Virak said. That’s because the election law favors larger parties. But a merger will also require “bold action” in terms of party leadership, he said.

“If the merger is based merely on dividing power among its members, it will lead to failure,” he said. Still, he added, a merger is the safest choice for the parties.

Ou Virak,
Why don't you try to lose some weight?

You are too FAT and it appears that you are having an easy life and making easy money eating rich food while the poor are skinny and eat little or some having nothing to eat for days.

I am not saying you are the only one who have a little degree at oversea and found no decent job to feed your own mouth, there are plenty who becoming rich in Cambodia while they were poor and jobless in Europe and America.

Lose some weight, before you may hit the heart attack.

i told you, these groups are about power for themselves, not about cambodia and reforms or cambodia, etc... and they are incompetent, ineffective, outdated in their style and thinking and so primitive. no one in their right mind will vote for them to win the overwhelming victory in cambodia, really! just look at the way they all conduct themselves, very incompetent and ineffective and outdated, etc, you know. for them, it's about stealing power in cambodia, and they thought people in cambodia are dumb and stupid. these group of run away people still living in their small dark hole forever. their campaign is merely a distraction of some sort, not a competent, effective one, really! i hate group like that and will never vote for them for their primitive, outdated, incompetent, ineffective, ignorant, evil, selfish stupid way, you know. imagine cambodia is run by them, it would be chaotic like back to the stone age era again, you know. don't vote for bias, discriminatory, prejudice group of radical, extremist, outdated, incompetent, ineffective greedy, stupid little group of power hungry people. never hear them talk on their agenda about how to reform cambodia, how to develop cambodia, what vision they have for cambodia, etc, it's all about power and revolution and primitive and stupidity in all their method. only stupid, ignorant drug infested people vote for such group in cambodia, really. i hope they stay a minority group forever in their stupid own way, you know.

Don't bark nonsense. I was merely suggesting that this fat guy named Ou Virak should try to lose some weight. He is overweight from eating too much while the poor are having nothing to eat. I heard he has a small BA degree that does no good to any country.

Talking about reform, I tell you this, I will hang all those Khmer Rouge that Yuon put to power and I will reduce corruption and punish the traitors.
